I bought a new Asus P5K mother board and had to flash the bios. I used the windows software to do so. Everything seemed ok but then the system failed. When booting it "resets" in 2 seconds after receiving power. Can't use any recovery software as the system does not boot.

It seems that I have a corupted Bios.

Is there a way to fix this?

If replacing the Bios chip is the only answer where can I do this? If I go to my normal dealer they would need to order and this might take a day or two. I need the computer ASAP.

SO if anyone knows of someone in Gauteng that either stocks or can fix this I would appreciate the info.

Thanks

Have you tried taking out the BIOS battery and resetting the BIOS.
Where did you purchase the board? The other alternative is to take the motherboard back to the manufacturer for replacement (you say it's new, so should be under warranty) - if the flash software you used came with the board or was from their website, then they should exchange it immediately - otherwise just don't tell them and ask for a swop-out - they will test it for you.

Absolutely RMA the board !
If the bios is corrupt and it wont post you are rather gestuffed..

I don't have time to take it back to the dealer I bought it from. Is there no one in Gauteng that can reprogram it?

IIRC, some asus boards (if not all) have a recovery feature.. you can use a stiffy or a cdrom or something, even a USB stick I think. Check their site.

P5k board should def have the recovery option. You'll have to RTM to see how to access it. can't remember offhand

The Asus boards do have USB stick recovery, that's why I'm getting one soon too.
CrashFree BIOS 3
Simply restore corrupted BIOS data from USB flash disk
The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 allows users to restore corrupted BIOS data from a USB flash disk containing the BIOS file. This utility saves users the cost and hassle of buying a replacement BIOS chip.

Check your manual
