ASUS Eee Pad transformer

It is not considered good practice to force close apps. The TF has enough memory so it is not necessary. Force closing comes from the days of devices with 512MB or less.
Android is also very efficient at closing apps when they have remained idle and it needs to recover memory.

Finally, my first post with my transformer! How do i close apps BTW?

You don't need to, but this is apersonal preference. There is an ongoing debate about the pros and cons of using task managers - Google a bit (or a lot...), and decide which side of the fence you feel most comfortable on. Me, I don't care for them.

Rooting provides full access to your device, you can do some really cool things like overclock the CPU among other things.

For most people however, this is not necessary.

I might root at some stage but haven't felt the need just yet. The main reason for me would be to overclock.

EDIT: (And to have access to all apps & games regardless of location)

Can anyone list some persuasive reasons why someone should root?

I know there are some apps that require root.

Sure root allows you to overwrite default applications like Google Maps or Android Market and it allows for the normal full backups and flashing alternative ROM's onto your Android devices.

The other reason some people root is to add functionality that normally dont exist, for example being able to plug in USB 3G modems or allow you to connect to ADSL using raw pppoe from the device. Android by default also dont allow you to connect to Ad-Hoc WiFi networks because of the security issues that can arise, you can allow your device to connect to them by rooting and changing the settings.

Best way to explain is to point you to an article that sums it all up best for me:

40" Samsung HDMI works fine, I suspect its something to do with Sony. I remember having issues some time ago with my Laptop and a friends Sony TV some time ago when I booted into Linux, Vista back then worked but only after SP1.

Looks like its the sony TV. Tried connecting to a LG and it works 100%

Picked mine last week and I'm loving it so far. So far I've only got two issues:
1) The lack of applications/games optimised for Honeycomb (kinda tough to come to terms with after using my Galaxy S phone for a year)
2) The difficulty in playing certain video formats, esp. HD encodes (could also be software related)

On the Applications I dont have an issue as the functions I use my tablet for or can even think of using are all covered, there is not a single function where I can go "I wish there was an app for that" but Games yes games are in need of some developer love. I have a short list of games that is on my device but there are so many I wish would be available its not even funny esp the likes of Gameloft's Starfront Colission or Dungeon Hunter

I dont have an issue of media not being supported, I guess its mostly because I stream using DLNA vs playing movies off my tablet. When I do copy movies onto the tablet for traveling I normally convert them to mkv's as I prefer 700 mb files vs 4 gig ones that fill up the space in no time.

Sorry if this was covered previously. Should I bother with a screen protector? I know that it has gorilla glass but I heard that it isn't all that scratch resistant...

Which media player do you recommend Elimentals?

Personally I use the included player only but don't use my tablet as my primary media device, so cant really comment on all the players, maybe its best to ask someone that played with different media apps.

I use my tablet mostly for movies- get moboplayer it's awesome

Was pleasantly surprised to find that some Tegra 2 games for other platforms do indeed work with the TF101. Not a hell of a lot, but at least I've got Shadow Guardian up and running now. NOVA 2 still eludes me :p

If you get a erm "demo" version they seem to work, I think the problem is that Gameloft might be using the Phone ID(IMEI/cell Number) to validate the legality of the game and ASUS doesn't have a Cell radio so it fails the check

I would recommend a screen protector, it already has "Gorilla" protection but anything harder than the surface will scratch it, i.e. sand.

I see a 3G version is being released in Europe this month. anyone know when it is likely to be available in SA?

Have you managed to find one locally, that does not cost an arm and a leg?

Quick question. Which way do you put the sd card into the slot? If you are looking at the sdcard slot (with the screen facing upwards), do you insert the sdcard with the metal contacts facing downwards or upwards?

Dumb question, but the manual doesnt specify and dont wana get a little micro sd card stuck in the wrong way.

The contacts will face downwards. The slot is quite finicky so you'll have to use your fingernail to get it to click in properly. Thought mine was broken until I figured that out :p
