ASUS Eee Pad transformer

Landmark now has the docking station up as well, and it's R1628.95, which brings the total for a 16GB WiFi Transformer + Dock to R6060.04. I think the possibility exists that it could be cheaper to import one myself :-/

As i have said before, it is not always convenient to have to tether to a cell phone. Plus having to make sure 2 devices are always charged is lame. I have been doing it with my iPad for a few months and i swore i would never get a tablet again without 3g.

Rooted Desire, when it detects my Netbook (Bluetooth) it turns on tether, netbook with Linux set to auto-connect to the Desire's WiFi. If you want you can use the manual 1 click of an Android widget to turn on/off tether.

No issues or worries about battery life, if you have low power you can always charge the phone from the Netbook/Tablet.

Thats still not the most attractive method. Its just so backwards. Nothing is better than having built in 3g.

Looking on amazon the price for just the pad works out more if you add back vat. You do need to add vat right?

I've been ignoring one of the most used benchmarks for pricing: comparison with iPad2. The Transformer is more expensive than the iPad2 in SA. The only word that comes to mind is "Fail".

That is like comparing a Ferrari to a VW and say fail on the Ferrari. iPad is a childs play thing. If you want to get real work done get a Android device. <---- see I can troll 2

I don't care about the iPad2, I still like the keyboard idea. But the Transformer is more expensive than a netbook, which would be a whole lot more useful. Now if you could get an Android tablet to run Ubuntu, that would be cool. Only seen a link to where Ubuntu was installed in a VM on a Xoom. I think it would run really slowly.

does anyone know who distribute it in SA?
is it rectron?
I wanna see if i can get it cheaper :-)

Any Asus reseller... Asus is in the country. Their stock is only landing next week.

Ya that's the one big pity about the transformer, wish they had one usb on the tablet and one on the dock.

P.S. looked at importing myself from the UK but once you add the crazy fees on for transfering money overseas it's pretty much the same price (and thats with someone bringing it back for me). Couldn't find an online retailer who has stock that will accept an international credit card :(

Thats very strange..i thought all of them accept international CC.
did you try amazon??

I wonder how long it will take Asus to get updates....

I see Xoom is already rolling out 3.1 not that it will need it, but would be nice to know if Asus is close on updates or going to hang at the back of the 18 month grace period.

What's the verdict on the acer iconia. It's the only tablet with full sized usb port.
