ASUS Eee Pad transformer

So I am trying to use my new Transformer and for the most part it's all good - especially love Plex!

The problem I am having though is issues with my router/3G modem. Most of the apps I have been able to get (was able to bum some WiFi from a friend) now need updates which I need to get from the store - I want to just get a few basic apps in place so that i can watch videos etc.

Is there a place in Gauteng that offers free Wi-Fi? I see that Mugg and Bean do offer free WiFi but there is a 30 mb limit - I may need a tad bit more than that.

If i do have to pay for the WiFi, what is the best option to go for? I will be travelling internationally soon so international coverage for the paid option would be preferable. G Connect seems to be viable.

The oher thing is the price of SD cards - compared to international prices, we seem to be quite excessive. Is this correct or am i just seeing too many excessibly priced retailers.

Seeing as I am travelling quite soon i could probably pick them up over there at half the price.

Any suggestions?

I bought a USB3.0 male/female extender to lengthen my charging cbale but it won't charge. Any ideas why?
The Transformer wakes up but doesn't charge...

The cabke uses custom pinouts for charging. And wont work with a usb extender..

http://www.boingo.com/

I've used the boingo app and it automatically connected me to their wifi when I was in mugg & bean - with no limit as far as I know. They partner with local businesses to provide an internet connection and when travelling abroad there should be even more hotspots than you can find in SA

That Transformer 300 looks cool, would be even cooler if it had the screen of the 700.

Would love the 700 with 3G !

I want a 1900*1200 Asus Transformer with 3G, and a 2Mp front camera !

Also needs 64MB built-in, with a microSDXC slot (yes, up to 128MB cards (64GB MicroSDXC already available) !).

Between the 300 and the 700, all of this will be available soon (except the microSDXC), but not in the same package !

I think I read about this somewhere.

If I can recall correctly, you need a USB cable with all the "connections" if you look closely at a USB it has 4 gold connectors, The TF cable has I think 5 more gold connections at the back, including the normal 4.

EDIT:

Yeah, I just confirmed with mine, it seems that Asus has put 5 extra connectors at the back of the USB, if you look at your charger, look closely at the slot where the cable goes, the 5 extra connectors are there too.

WOW...thanks didn't know about this.

No probs, makes you wonder why Asus did that, they could have at least made the cable longer.

Here I was researching different usb standards but this might be an only Asus thing.

Its to split the payload without pulling too much current into one wire. You can see this in loads of high current devices, some USB drives use dual-USB connectors to draw enough current instead of splitting just the power section on a single connector.

My GPS is working fine, check that it isn't turned off in the new quick action menu(Far right icon).

Since I got ICS (even after the second revision [fix]), my battery life has gone down the drain - it's pathetic compared to what it was and it dies overnight when it used to last for days on end. I'm loathe to do a hard/factory reset...

Yeah me too. It just randomly dies when left alone for a while. The battery can be on 70% the one day, and then the next morning its suddenly dead.

Unfortunately I think the only thing you can do is a factory reset.

Some application dev's just don't like to follow guidelines and cause stuff ups like this, so best is to start afresh

Heh yep. Been having a damn uphill battle with my TF101 since the ICS update. Trying everything whilst avoiding a factory reset. Did one yesterday, been fine since then. Well I mean it has yet to go to deep sleep when left alone for more than 4 hours.

Just to be clear - a factory reset means EVERYTHING gets wiped - back to the day I bought it with the exception that ICS will still be installed? Any game data etc would need to be transferred to an SD card?
