Yesterday my Dad bought himself the Asus EEE pc 2GB from IC.
We have been trying to find this type of system for a while. My dad always wanted a PC that is simple to operate, allows him to view photos from his camera, and to do banking when he is out of the office, and check e-mail. This PC fits the bill exactly.
The Linux OS is very easy to operate even my dad who does not understand much PC figured it out quickly.
Connecting a E220 usb modem was even easer than windows, just go to networks new connection 3G modem it detects it, you select your operator, and done.
For some reason Asus did not Include a Mail client on the 2GB ones from IC, So after discovering this i was highly annoyed, I did research and discovered that this used the 700 repository, But that Thunderbird was Installed on the 4GB and above versions, they use the 701 repository. But this being Linux I googled and discovered that a bit of Terminal (ctrl + alt +t) and you where able to load the 701 repository's into this machine, then just install thunderbrid and load a 701 updatepack From asus and volia, thunderbrid works. Thunderbird is a bit big but you can load a compact theme. If you compose a message there are 4 'to' addresses this is a wast of space but there is a patch, and a bit of "sudo bash" later it now has 1 'to' address.
But this is a wonderful machine, I would not like to see xp on it, but for notes, Internet, e-mail, odd quote, ect this is great. I am going to invest in a decent size SD card. I think this is going to rattle the market. I just wish installing programs where a lot easier. have not connected it up to a printer or to my network, but that should not be to mutch issue.

just ask if you whant help with getting thunderbrid on the IC laptops.
