Asus G73SW vs Gaming Rig....

I don't know how Cybertrek manage to sell the Asus ROG laptops for so cheap, because they've always had them for much much cheaper than any other place in SA.
 
I did most of my LAN parties on my Toshiba X205-S9349 laptop, for about a year, and it seemed fine. We don't do hectic games as us G'town okes are not really rolling in the dough :D. COD4, Split Second, CS:Source and the like run just fine on it, and I can get away with last year's games on medium settings (SC2, C&C4, MW2, etc.).

THe newer games I'd rather not try, but then again it's only a 8700M GT and a 1.8GHz dual core. I stay in Port Alfred so when I go to the LAN on weekends, I have to cart the laptop up on the bike, and for this purpose it's a really great machine. Different strokes for different folks, as they say :)

Perhaps one day when you sell the K version would be worth a bit more than the non-k one? Just a thought :)

I did get it yes, heavy as hell and it goes like stink. I have a silly resolution issue, but other than that it performs well :)

So I got quotes on Intel system but w.r.t AMD Bulldozer on it's way,should I wait and check benchies or go ahead with my built?
 
Not so sure about the benches as Bulldozer has been strategically delayed until August. Many folks seem to say you cannot trust the benches/Engineering Samples as they are not similar to what the customer would receive, but here is a article about the first supposedly released chip (They are scheduled to be EOL in 6 month's time, however)
 
It all depends on if you can last so long.. If you are willing to wait until August (Or longer depending on if we get some in time for the release) and a few days to see how it performs matching up against Sandy.. If it outperforms and comes in at about the same price then I'd go for it, although I'm a AMD fan..
 
Its really not worth the time and money to upgrade components in a laptop

Agreed. That's what makes PC's the better buy in my opinion. I don't mind the extra packing up and assembling time and walking to my car twice for a lan isn't an issue..

The only thing worth upgrading in a laptop is perhaps putting something like the Seagate Momentus XT Hard Drive in to increase storage and it's a hybrid SSD..
