So I bought this card with 18 month warranty left for R2300

Fitted it and it works nice, but one problem...

When I crank the setting of C & C to max for all setting it runs awesome smooth and then in 15 - 20 mins computer shuts down (crashes)

I have the following rig:

Athlon 5600
dvd rw
4 gig kingston pc 8500 ram
230 gig hd
and the gtx260...
and 5.1 speakers
All plugged into a 500watt psu..........I'm thinking when the graphics card in on a heavy load the power supply is too low and so it crashes?

Correct?

If so, does anyone know how much more juice I need?

Will a 650watt do the trick?

hmmm.. help?

500W should be enough - what is the temps like on the card?

Actually 500watts should be fine. You most likely have a cheap generic power supply. They never supply the claim wattages.

There could be two causes for your problem. The first is more likely.

1. The card is overheating. Get a case fan or two. Sometimes they alone can make a world of difference.

2. Your power supply cannot cope with the load. I'd say get a corsair 550watt. If you can't afford one get the coolermaster 550watt.

If you want to sli in the future though get a 650.

+1. Good ventilation in a case is often overlooked.

Whether or not that 500watt is enough depends on the make of the power supply.

You would think its more than enough but under load generic ones sometimes just give out....PCformat had some interesting reading about genric PSU's this month...it was some "explosive" reading...lol:D

It's a gigabyte poseidon case and the Asus gtx260 matrix has 2 built on fans, it's not an overheating issue for sure.

Did you actually check the temps, or are you assuming that it is not overheating?? In my experience most causes of random crashes are because of heat. Install Speedfan and check all the temps. That will rule out overheating as the most likely cause. Then we can start to look for failing components/PSU issues....
