ASUS or Dell Laptop

Had an Acer Travelmate in Varsity - lugged it around for 4 years and never broke down on me. I did, however, lost the exchangeable DVD ROM when the bag was stolen, so I phoned Acer for a new one.

(This was in the bay where you could either fit a new battery, DVD rom or a plastic insert to lessen the machine's weight)

Turns out you couldn't just buy the new drive - you had to book the machine in for them to give you a new one! Waited 6 weeks and decided never an Acer again.
 
I think you'll be happy with your purchase. I have an ASUS and absolutely no complaints. Good after sales service too.
 
Got the machine today - ComX made good on their delivery! (ordered and paid on Monday, around 15:00).
Really chuffed so far - bit bigger than I expected, but the display, general built quality and responsiveness is great. Unfortunately full of junk software, but most is easy enough to uninstall. Touchpad is good (hate the combined 'Clickpads' - this one has a seperate button) and the keyboard is fine (I know some reviewers complained about it). The bundled mouse and bag were nice as well, and I was able to activate the extended warranty without any problems.

Unfortunately I'm in the office, so can't try too much fun stuff (Test the speakers etc.). Will post again after I checked out some of this!

Yup. I can also say that the screen is REALLY bright - much brighter then the Samsung SyncMaster BX2450's LED screens which our offices recently got. Everytime I move my head from the ASUS to the external screen I have to adjust - so I ended up turning the ASUS notebook's brightness down.
 
@sTechnical: Bit late to the conversation, aren't you?

- Already bought an ASUS
- Got my warranty extended - so more or less the same as Dell (not on-site, but they do pick it up for you), 3 years
- It was my choice, not yours ;) But if you got value out of this conversation, great!

@the rest: Tested a bit more of the machine, really liking it so far. The speakers ('Bang & Olufsen ICEpower') isn't as great as it sounds, tries to pump out too much and ends up distorting in the process. But they are quite loud. The audio software bundled with the machine defaults to heavy bass-enhancing settings, which sounds a million times better after being disabled.

Junkware was easy enough to remove.
Machine runs really cool and quiet, although I am yet to kick the Nvidia card into high gear. Want to try the Heaven DX11 Benchmark on it this weekend. http://unigine.com/products/heaven/
Created the recovery DVDs yesterday - all 5 of them. Software was bit cryptic in that when you run it without a blank DVD in the drive, it says "No DVD burner found". Luckily it works fine if you insert a DVD first. :)

The mouse that was included looks cheap and plasticky, but it is actually a rebranded Logtech USB min-mouse and works quite well. Probably R100 extra value, but still nice to have one included. The bag is also not that wonderful, but the machines fit and at least you immediately have something to carry the machine with.
 
man you so good, have my asus for 5 months now and it still bugs me on start up to create the recovery disks.
