Hi there, i have the Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard and after doing a bios update (as recommended to me by asus support after having a continuous rebooting problem) and immediately following the bios update my pc would no longer boot. As in no POST no nothing, hit the power switch and i get nadda, nothing on the screen. It also intermittently cuts the power as i see all my fans and LEDs go dead for a second then carry on.

Any ideas? Recourse?

Thanks
Linden

Howzit Linden. That doesn't sound good. Does you board have a backup BIOS or something? Try setting it to defaults (jumpers) and then having a go, sommer take out the battery and everything. GL man. Let us know what's happening.

Did you use the ASUS BIOS update utility provided and update your BIOS in WINDOWS? Is this the first time you update BIOS and are you sure you choose the correct motherboard BIOS instead a wrong model?

Your Asus MB should have that feature called CrashFree BIOS 2.

The CrashFree BIOS2 feature now includes the BIOS auto-recovery function in a support DVD. Users can reboot their system through the support DVD when a bootable disk is not available, and go through the simple BIOS auto-recovery process. ASUS motherboards now enable users to enjoy this protection feature without the need to pay for an optional ROM.

Most of the new Major brand MB comes with similar BIOS failure recovery features. Good Luck!

I've got the same board, why did u update the bios? Try what cyberarmy and Thestealth suggested.

In future don't fix what is not broken :)

How did you update ?? From within windows or from the bios with ezflash?? If it's from within windows it was a very very bad idea.

This has happended to other users on the asus forum's using the windows up date method as well.

Try using the dvd method or take out the cmos battery wait about an hour reinsert and hope it boots. This has been know to work else you are going to have to rma.

Updating your bios for no apparent reason is like leaving your box outside and prey it doesn't rain :p

Got 2 of those Boards in the house which I bought at the end of 2006.
Set them up to run at 3500Mhz and haven't touched them since.

Only thing I was concerned about with this board was the high temperature on that Northbridge. Have you ever felt how hot it gets?

I think the answer from ASUS was pretty standard. I would say more often than not a rebooting problem has probably nothing to do with the Bios, but more about other hardware or software. Have you scoured the ASUS Forums for tips?

Bios 1403

Reading through the ASUS Forum it seems there are some major issues with this new Bios Version for the P5N32-E-SLI.
A chap by the name of TK has a method on how to flash back to an earlier Bios.
Here is the the link.

Hope this helps. :)

Wow! First of all let me just say thank you for the many responses i have received, i greatly appreciate all of your input (now to process it all  )

Let me try and answer as many of your questions as possible.

"Did you use the ASUS BIOS update utility provided and update your BIOS in WINDOWS? "

- I used the windows update utility (seemingly a foolish decision in hindsight)

"Is this the first time you update BIOS and are you sure you choose the correct motherboard BIOS instead a wrong model?"

- Yes it is definitely the correct bios, it is not the first time i'm updating the bios, and also I was under the impression the update utility would automatically make sure that the bios is for the specific mobo before it updates.

"The CrashFree BIOS2 feature now includes the BIOS auto-recovery function in a support DVD. Users can reboot their system through the support DVD when a bootable disk is not available, and go through the simple BIOS auto-recovery process."

- I don't fully understand how to make use of this feature. Nothing appears on screen when I start up the pc so how would I be able to boot off the cd???

"I've got the same board, why did u update the bios?"

- I could not play any games anymore, it got to the point where the pc would crash (just turn off unexpectedly) whenever I would fire up a seemingly graphic intensive game. (Strangely enough never with benchmarking software).

I hope i've answered all the questions posed, I will try some of the suggestions mentioned here, thank you again and I will keep you informed. :)

not helping your prob but your pc will not just crash because the bios becomes outdated, some other hardware issue would be the cause ie overheating, psu getting old, fans dirty etc etc

I only ever change bios when i am looking for new cpu compatibility

Yep, I tried updating the BIOS of my P5N-E SLi that I have sitting around here with the windows update utility, froze halfway through :o

True, I don't think that is the problem...

I have no idea :o I also have a BIOS recovery DVD but it's never worked before.

Hmmm, PSU problem maybe? But if it runs the benchmarking software then I doubt it...

You'll have to try flashing back to a working BIOS, definitely check out the link BTTB provided :)

Not caring to double check, but that P5N Board can be flashed from within the Bios itself?
Features include backing up your old Bios Version and Saving your favourite Overclock settings. I have a OC File in storage if you want? File is dated 17 Jan 07 and the file extension is .cmo and the file size is 304 bytes.
Of course these setting work for our setup which is a 6600 Core 2 CPU. Machines are running at 3.5 since I set them up in January 2007.
Running with Bios Version 0902.

What I also recall from this board is that a lot of people had a lot of Memory Issues even with some of the so called fancy names like Corsair for example.

How do i flash back to a working bios????????????? I can't even get it to post after the bios update!!!

I would remove the battery and use the "reset bios" jumper if it has one (it should). Look at the manual, it will tell you how to reset the bios to defaults. If that doesn't work try taking the mobo back and claim it just died.
