I think that's fine. If it fails as long as you have a backup you'll be fine. People need to remember however that the Cloud Restore feature Asus provides to reinstall Windows 11 Home from scratch is only valid for one year so create backups or clone the original drive or keep the original SSD safe in case you need to replace it and clone it again.

Their current software has a 30 day trial which should be OK to do a clone, I used that.

Only place I'd use it docked is my tv. My TV does 120hz but only @1080p. 2k and up only 60hz.
What dock do your recommend? The jsaux one? And if I remember correctly I'd need a 100W charger to run 30W mode?
Don't have the ally yet, hopefully by Wednesday.

This one will do

Don't need a 100w anymore can use a 65w.
The reason you would want to dock is initial setup of windows sucks without one
You may need a higher power charger with some docks but not the one mentioned above. Some docks take as much as 15W for themselves hence a 65W charger will only give you 50W. With the latest BIOS they've improved the ROG's PD compatibility. I can now use my dock with a 100W supply whereas before it would not deliver full power despite a 100W power input.
Update all your stuff in Armory Crate, Windows and MyAsus.
The ROG is very good. I tried RPC3 and was able to get some PS3 era games going at smooth frame rates.

cause my son got detention so didn't go to scouts on Friday so didn't use it there. I did get this desktop charger and 100w usb type c cables for the bedsideThis seems to work quite nicely.
