Asus Rog Ally

Docked or not docked, I am just wondering how old you guys are? I'm 47, started wearing glasses a few years back, because....you know, getting old. I seem to up the font sizes on everything these days. Anybody my age playing comfortable on these?
You're only as old as you want to be.

Cyberpunk on the Ally got it to a nice 40 to 45fps with settings comparable to the Series X, no ray tracing obviously

So I bought this to add an ethernet port, it's not badly built, plugged directly into the Allys 65w charger it seems to work, but plugged into my dells 100w charger and it doesn't work.
Claimed 100w on takealot but in reality seems closer to 80w, which my Dell doesn't like and seems neither does the Ally, but I'll test with it plugged into a monitor and keyboard mouse with it and the original charger. Was only R31220231122_070907.jpg

Maybe you can answer this question. What work can this thing do? Can you load Microsoft Office on it? Do actual work with it. My daughter is convinced that it is a computer I am convinced she is getting a laptop. But you own one, are you doing work on it or is it just for games?

It is a full blown computer, you just need a dock to hook up a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Other than that it's literally a full blown PC. You can install Office on it

If you had a daughter would you buy her this or a gaming laptop?

I have a son, he has one as well. He had a laptop, also for this price the gaming laptop you're going to get isn't going to be that great anyway.

If she actually needs to work on a laptop while on the go ala without a screen or docking station, a gaming laptop would be better.

Wouldn’t really call the Ally a Gaming laptop. It’s a PC or a mobile Gaming machine since you really can’t do much real work without the dock+keyboard+++

That is what I am thinking. The desktop is old and I was thinking of getting a new desktop but Eskom is not going to get fixed overnight. I think gaming laptop has more value for work and play.

That's not a bad price, making it 16GB only makes it 13k, which is a tad more than the Ally's price now.

See thats where the Ally would beat it, as it won't live on the desk :). I mean it could, but it won't
Well I can buy her the laptop or the Ally. She can't have both unless if you are willing to ship me one

But in the end Eskom is all but dead and I think anything portable is worth more then a desktop that will cost over R15k anyway so it is a win for me.

Yes I have Microsoft Office 365 on it. The problem is that it has a tiny screen and the on screen keyboard is only good for the occasional entry of passwords and such. Attaching a keyboard, mouse, dock, and monitor to it will turn it a powerful computer. I have Windows 11 Pro running on mine.

I read somewhere that the CPU inside outperforms an M2 Mac in some regards. It is a powerful chip.

Buy her a Xbox controller with the laptop. I own the ally and I use my laptop 9 out of 10 times when gaming in bed or even when slouching on the couch.

Ok ended up setting up a return on this, it literally shocks you.

Actually realized I still have the 1TB SSD I purchased on Shein a month ago and doubtful I'll use it since between GeforceNow + Fast Internet I don't really struggle with space.

If anyone wants it in thread, pop me a PM. Still sealed etc.
