Asus Rog Ally

The Z1 only

Saw today takealot had the extreme version for R12800

Not a bad price
Dont want to read through everything, thinking of buying the one on promo from Makro today. Is there a big difference between z1 and z1 extreme? Or will the normal suffice?
Going to sell my Series S, so used to lower powered consoles.

What is the cheapest storage upgrade atm? I think I read here in the past soneone bought a SSD from Temu for R300, is that an option?

There is a big difference, the Z1 Extreme would be roughly the same as a Series S, the Z1 more like a PS4, but saying that the Series S is still a better solution as even at it's peak it hits 74w, so just get a low powered monitor/TV and you'll be gaming at 100w no problems, that 60w more than the Z1 Extreme is worth it.

Ok so for your Xbox Series S to be a bit more portable and low powered
This would give you 2.5 hours easily running an Xbox Series S.
Plus using this would also help the power situation
You'll get a far better experience honestly :)

Thanks, guess I have a few updates tonight before playing

This locally and if there is an issue you can RMA through them.
Thanks, working great. Struggled a bit to get the OS Recovery to work, had to put the old one back and enable Secure boot, then recovery worked on the new one.
Jir, it's a huge job getting it setup and updated again.

I bought an adapter put the old one in and clone it, that's what I did :). But glad it's working now

It looks like the ally has been further reduced on the local Asus store. To R11999

EDIT: I have been looking to get one but now I feel like theres new hardware coming soon. Incredible's promotional price ends on the 17th and Marko's at the end of the month.

What do you think will replace the ROG this year? Is there a new AMD chipset out?

The Ally has a AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. The 8840U is out but perfomance increases are small, its still the same gen just a slight update.
Probably once the next upgrade comes out they will make a new Ally near the end of the year.

Doesn't matter anyway. I'm expecting mine to arrive next week.

AFMF should hopefully be arriving soon.

The Ally doesn't need major CPU performance boosts, it would benefit from a GPU boost, as in Navi 3.5 vs Navi 3.0 but likely it also won't be a huge bump. Navi 4.0 may be better.

Needs a better cooling solution :) if you could get the gpu and cpu cooler you'll clock higher

I don't get much time to play these days, but when I do I'm pretty happy with visuals / performance.
I probably wont upgrade anytime soon, but if they could move the tech forward in leaps and bounds its good to know if and when I decide to, its going to be a significant change. In my mind its like me having owned a Playstation 1 then buying a PS4
