So I did what the Reddit recommended and that was to remove the Vulkan compatibility pack and uninstall it. The boot times are still slow.

So my Ally boots up, the ROG logo appears and then Windows boots up in seconds. I use my fingerprint and then I get the Windows Welcome thing with the circular dots and that goes for about 2 minutes, then the screen goes completely black, pressing the power button turns the backlight on and off, and then after 5 minutes Windows appears.

I don't have the SD card inserted. Does anyone else have this problem?

Nope not at all

Sadly sounds like it or failing ssd

No SSD is working fine, it's only occurring at bootup. It's some stupid Windows glitch which occurs at start up, SSD performance is fine and not slow.

Well I spoke too soon. Today the Ally won't even power on. Holding the power button for a few seconds while plugged in brings up the battery led but the device won't power on. Maybe it ran flat.

Quite possible if you left in sleep, windows is horrible at that. It's happened to me, let it charge and see what happens

It doesn't charge though. Neither the original charger nor the Unitek draw any current. I'll let it charge for longer but I think the unit's dead. It's still under the one year warranty so better now than later.

Will have to take the Sabrent SSD out. Maybe disconnecting the battery then will fix it.

If it's drained, leave it plugged in for a bit and see. That's what I did on mine and it fired back up, if that fails then yeah RMA

The thing is that when the battery recharges the LED glows orange. That's not happening. Now it doesn't even light up anymore. Oh well... altogether I can say that Rog Ally has been a disappointing product.

You have seemed to have gotten a lemon :(

There were other people here who also did RMA. Considering the small number of people here...

The question is now, should I go with Incredible or should I contact Asus ZA?
I had the Sabrent drive in there but Asus actually promotes SSD upgrades and even has a video tutorial about it. But knowing the sort of snakes Incredible are, I can imagine them refusing the warranty claim.

What would you recommend ASUS or Incredible?

Incredible if you want your money back but replace the drive back to original

Yes I will put the old drive back, given that's a 512GB and the one I bought was a 2TB.

Thanks.
This does not instill confidence...especially considering the companies' track records which you need to deal with (ie incredible/game/makro...had bad experiences with all of them...sigh)
Your device was, what 2/3 weeks old from what i can see via the thread?

No my device was purchased in June 2023. It worked OK all along. I only had software issues with Windows overriding the drivers and I fixed that using a Windows 11 Pro key as that allows you to set a policy which prevents that. The thing used to crash on Genshin Impact at 30W Turbo mode but that sort of resolved itself and I would play on a custom 28W fans at 100% profile and that didn't crash. Unfortunately about a week ago I noticed very long "Welcome" screen times (the Windows screen you get after you log in with the fingerprint) with the device going black screen but fans all spinning and all after Windows login. And a few days ago the device started to give me performance issues in some Steam games, but very basic ones, where it would give me 15fps instead of 60fps. I had the device plugged in and running when after a while of inactivity it went to sleep and switched off. The next day it never woke up. It flashed for a moment with the power on switch and the ROG logo and then nothing. Plugging into the wall with the Asus charger only lights up the white power LED but there is nothing else. Holding down power or power and volume down for >30sec does not help.

I'm gonna put back the old SSD and maybe after disconnecting the battery that may reset the device? But if that fails I'll take it back to Incredible for a repair, replacement or refund. I kind of like this device but sadly it just died on me. On Reddit people have had such issues and apparently they needed a motherboard replacement.
