I ended up doing a cloud recovery but armory crate and myAsus app didn't work, i couldn't load the windows store either so that was a bust. I then had to do a reset from windows settings, choosing to wipe everything. Interestingly enough this didn't nuke the asus apps and once I got through initial setup, everything worked again.

For some reason foreign Ally users mention disabling Bitlocker when cloning the drive but Bitlocker is not available on Windows 11 Home which is what my device came with. There is no option to disable encryption for me. Some commenters have said the same in YT videos about cloning.

If you upgraded to Pro you have Bitlocker as well.

Today Windows did an update when booting up and things are still OK, device still has a working GPU.

Maybe you guys are not using an SD card and that's why there is a problem on my device. My SD card is 100% functional, it's the Samsung Pro Plus which came with the IC bundle.

I didn't have any issues with the GPU yet.
I'm using the same samsung pro SD card that game with the IC bundle.

The only difference I can think of is that I upgraded to win 11 pro.

I have Windows 11 Home Single Language. I see the upgrade keys sold state that I would need to do a clean reinstall for "single language". Did you have to do a clean reinstall?

I didn't need to on my end. Just had to put key in and let windows do the upgrade, everything worked perfectly after the upgrade.

Running remote desktop is just worth the upgrade.

Did you have to do a clean reinstall? I see the cheapest upgrade key on BOBShop has what the R70 one does not state. I don't want to do a reinstall. Just a simple enter key and upgrade that way.

No clean install. Just enter key and upgrade.

I ordered mine yesterday via Asus since it was the same price as Makro but as mentioned, it's a 3 year warranty only offer when purchased online.

I see Asus products have a 14 day refund policy so we'll see if there's a better deal like Incredible in a week or 2.

So while waiting, I bought this on Prime day, Amazon.

I so want to pull the trigger on this or the steam deck, but **** me they are over priced here in SA. My friends in the UK have the privilege of owning both annnnd the PS5 and and and ....

I'm going to hold back and see what Nintendo bring out with their new Switch.

I'd be hesitant to convert a sata3 to nvme, but honestly the boot times I've noticed from my nvme on my home PC to my sons with a normal sata3 is like miniscule and the ROG does like a laptop where it takes a few seconds longer then my PC to boot.
But nice a lot of good stuff there, not sure on the screen protectors though. But I don't even put one on my phone.

I'm going to stash the stock 512gb away. Bought the adaptor incase I ever had to transfer files.
I wanted to buy a UHS-II sd card but it was so expensive.

Forgot to mention, I'm going to print this stand for traveling.

Quick update.

I got my Rog Ally:-). Asus is super efficent even though the order still says "processing".

But the update is to let you know about sneaky Incredible Corruption, they had the device priced at R12 054 today and I confirmed with the help centre agent that there is stock... and yes there was. So while checking out, the price jumped to R15 999. WTF

That is sneaky, IC pricing does that sometimes and it's tough to get them to honour it as well. Have fun, hopefully you have no weird quirks
 
Received my ROG dock from Asus today. Going to see if it boosts the PD port on the jsaux dock or not. Might just end up using the Jdock as a prop for the ally, and use the official for everything else, although I like the amount of ports on there, comes in handy
 
Ok so the CharJenPro dock does not pass enough juice to the Ally to allow for the 30W Turbo Mode. I tried with an Ecoflow Delta 2 PD 100W output as that's currently the only 100W USB C PD supply I have. It allows this when connected directly to the Ally but not through the 85W (100W) dock. I've ordered a 120W McDodo which will come in handy.
So no love.
Got the 2TB SSD though but waiting on Takealot for the caddy as I want to clone the thing and not do a clean reinstall. Apparently the SSD comes with a free copy of Acronis True Image.

The dock looks solid though and will come in handy with computer/iPad use. However, no success on PD on that. Asus are really d1cks here. Still I may not need 30W Turbo because lately that's become unstable for me.

My device has started to crash more lately. For example I find that on 30W Turbo mode the device crashes just a few seconds into DOA6 or Genshin Impact and has to be reset. Screen freezes but sound continues to play and a hard reset is needed. The device does not overheat, there's not enough time for that. Noticed that with the newest firmware.

With a 3 year warranty he can afford to have quirks. :)
 
Guys for those who updated Windows to Pro, if you do have to reinstall Asus cloud recovery (which is only 1 year) will give you Windows Home again. Will that code work again on the hardware? Or will a new code be needed? I may just keep my original 512GB SSD as a backup for that reason.
