From Reddit; My Ally arrived now, busy setting up windows and such via keyboard and mouse.
Excited af!
Can delete the eSupport folder in c:\ to free up 7gb or so ,(back it up if you want, but cloud recovery will redownload it)
Go through add/remove programs and uninstall crap you won't need... Windows camera app for example
Update windows, update all apps from Windows store, update from the MyAsus app and from within Armoury Crate SE
6GB VRAM reservation seems to be the sweet spot but, as pointed out by u/walian21 below, some games (rarely but can happen) may not play nicely with such a low amount of system RAM. In that case experiment to find a better setting or just use AUTO.
If you're planning on using an SD Card (up to you) change it to "quick removal" mode from disk manager (for some reason the Ally sets it to "performance mode" by default which can corrupt the card if removed when the device is on.
Add "-silent" to the Steam shortcut to start it minimised
If you want to get a full 30w boost from your dock you'll nearly always need a 100w power supply (apart from a select few docks that can do 30w with the included Asus charger)
If you're getting sound distortion/crackling then disable spatial audio, either from Windows sound settings or from the Dolby app. You might want to swap from the default game mode anyway - IMO it sounds overblown. The music preset sounds better to me but it's all opinions innit.
Calibrate your controls in the usb controller manager in Windows - doesn't always make a difference but can't hurt
Disable the 2 power related options in ACSE (something like modern standby assistant etc) and then change pressing the power button to Hibernate in Windows. Gives you a more deck-like standby (takes longer to stop and start but does allow you to pause games)
USE FSR IN ALL GAMES THAT SUPPORT IT. If the game doesn't support FSR set it to 720p and use RSR instead.
I disable CPU boost for the Performance (15w) profile https://www.theouterhaven.net/2023/07/disabling-the-asus-rog-ally-cpu-boost-comes-with-a-catch/ YMMV but I find this tends to give a smoother experience with more of the power budget being allocated to the GPU cores. I keep it enabled for Turbo mode because power isn't an issue there.
On the same topic, enable Radeon Anti Lag in Adrenaline software. It's mainly used for reducing input lag (shocker, I know) but also has a supplemental effect of trying to improve power delivery to the GPU (better allocating the power budget anyway).
If you play a game that doesn't have an inbuilt frame rate limiter you can use Radeon Chill in Adrenaline software (either globally or on a per game basis) to set a limit yourself - just set the min and max values to the frame rate you're targeting. "Frame Rate Target Control" is available for some games as well but doesn't usually work as well as Chill.
If you find your controls aren't working in a game open the quick menu and toggle from "Auto" to "gamepad" controller mode. Same goes for if you suddenly open a windows app and your pointer disappears, change it to desktop - it's a bit buggy
