Asus Rog Ally

Possibly a software bug causing an issue. Might be worthwhile to reset and see if it helps before installing anymore games and stuff
Apparently it's an ally thing with the network wireless device not wanting to drop the wifi 6 router sigh.

I have to say I miss my Steamdeck. The amount of issues and bugs I'm encountering on the ROG makes me want to chuck it out the window .

Think I'm going to sell it again and wait for version 2.

There are a few bugs but it's not as bad as you claim. I get a few bugs which recur but if I avoid these particular situations, it's rock solid. It's also a nice PC and can do many PC things beyond what the Deck can do.

I don't use it on a daily basis. Perhaps once a week, primarily as a gaming handheld. Whenever I power it up updates are available. These updates tend to cause issues.

While it's impressive that it can function as a PC, as a casual gaming console, it doesn't quite meet my expectations. I'm not saying it's kack, but I've had a better experience with the Steam Deck, that's all.

I had that too, no more. Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro and change the policy to never update the graphics drivers.

11 Pro keys can be bought on Bob Shop.

Given that the Steam deck has kucker performance than this, I can't imagine how good the deck can be for anything beyond the most basic of games, so PS4 era and beyond won't run well on the deck while it runs well on this toy.

Yeah must do this for my second one, cause I forgot about Windows updates and aaargh it's annoying when it updates the GFX driver and it doesn't work properly, freaking Minecraft ran like a dog

I'm considering trying out chimeraOS.

Although the Steam Deck isn't as powerful, it handled all the games I played perfectly. I mainly enjoy indie or 2D games on the go, so the Ally might be more than I actually need. I had to try it though, fomo was real.

If my kids didn't take over my Switch, I'd still be using it with a smile :).

ChimeraOS is a tricky one of you plan on dual booting, you also lose out on some functionality.

Off the top of my head browsing reddit, suspend/resume can be a bit of hit or miss, the controller sometimes goes wonky and partial TDP control

Edit: have you considered just using steam big picture mode during startup or have a different front end like playnite handling store fronts?

Playnite specifically has an option to launch the storefront when you launch the game and close it when you done.

Otherwise if you are keen, heres a Nobara Guide

Will look at those options, thanks

If you want to try dual booting first, perhaps check out his video?
I have not tried it myself but should give some pointers

I've freed up some space from my D drive and moved it to the end of the partition table.
Will see if I can successfully dual boot Nobara when I have more time. Will let you guys know

Okay so finally cloning the drive, no need to do extend partition afterwards, as there is an option in Macrium that says copy and extend.

Did you get an m.2 external case?
I did yes, it arrived on Tuesday, so I put the thing in last night, took about 3 hours to turn off bitlocker :-) after that I started the cloning so tonight I'll do the swithero to see if it works.

I had an old Asus ROG motherboard pop, also due to me fiddling way back yonder, was also reluctant to ask them for help as was thinking they going to charge me. I contacted them, they actually told me step by step on what to look for and see if it fixes the issues, if not to take it back to the shop I bought it, give them the reference number and they'll swap it out.
I did that and the shop at first was like hurumph blah blah, I gave the reference number from Asus, they gave me a replacement board, never know if Asus actually replaced their broken stock :-)

Sounds good to me. I cant imagine you'd have any issues if its was a Macrium clone.
More space, always exciting stuff lol

Indeed :-), do need to clean my Ally, compared to the new one it looks well used. Though sadly my son hasn't actually used his much, mainly due to freaking updates and various bugs popping up thanks to Windows, slowly ironing those out.
