Asus Rog Ally

So last night Forza 4 would crash on start. So I installed Forza 5. 60FPS at medium settings at 1080P. Nice.

Oh Nice, i got quite far on Forza 5 with my PC but got bored of the driving/Racing. I Enjoy Flight Simulator and get a decent frame rate via the Ally.

I finished my first game on the Ally which was F.E.A.R 3. I am now playing the witcher 3 and ordered the m.2 bracket from amazon. going to toss in a 4tb.

Trying to get emulation working on this using Emulation station desktop, so far got PSP working, PS2 sort of working, but will need to fiddle more with it.

It's my main game before I took back my Ally.

900p at high settings with AMD RIS on and MSAA 2x gives about 65 to 75fps and looks really really good.

I mist say that game is so well optimized it knows how to absolutely max whatever hardware you got look good and have the best fps.

I mostly do Genshin Impact on mine, if I have time to game. I have all things set to high or highest and shadows are medium. At 28Watt custom profile at 1080P it gives me 55-60fps. The iPad Pro M2 is however able to achieve >60FPS with all settings maxed out. So the M2 is still a faster GPU/CPU for this game, although the iOS version of the game may not be the same as the PC version. My S22U is not able to match these and has to resort to 30fps with all maxed out but apparently the Android version is not optimised.

1080P Genshin impact on this tiny screen is incredibly sharp. The ROG also carries across the spatial audio of the game.

On the other hand Dead or Alive 6, which IMO is probably the best fighting game, runs exceptionally well on the PS5, and gets at best 30fps on the PS4, can't do a proper 1080P native mode at 60fps on the ROG. It dips below 50fps even in 30W Turbo plugged in mode. It can only achieve consistent 60fps at 720P settings, even 900P does not give >60fps. DOA5 LR, a game which is harder to play than 6, is able to pull 1080P 60FPS but this game runs well on PS4.

I think I should add a disclaimer that those settings plugged in on Turbo mode is what fried my sd card and slot after like a 6 hour gaming session. :X3:

DoA6 seems to be horribly optimized, same as Genshin

It flies on PS5. Sadly most of my DLC outfits are on PS5. One can mod outfits on DOA5LR and DOA6 on Windows, so free outfits, but they don't show up in online play. PS5 version can also change hair colour for money of course :(

However I'm happy with the GI performance on the ROG. I think I have volumetric fog turned off, shadows to medium and textures are high but not highest. It's sharp as heck at 1080P.

The good news is that Genshin Impact and DOA6 no longer crash on Turbo Mode. So maybe a fw or driver update fixed that. I also found my missing SD card but I'm not using it, so hopefully the ROG doesn't fry the reader.

I did watch a guy who modded his rog and he put a thermal pad over the card reader, as Asus actually left it pretty bare boned.

If anyone else wants an unboxed one for 11865
Check this out on takealot: ROG ALLY Gaming Handheld Console

Asus dropped the balls with the Rog's card reader. In the US of A people are RMAing them, in SA we get f-ed over by middleman small timers.

Someone on takalot is also selling for R22K

You can get the unboxed for R11K, the Asus one for R15K, another for R15-0dd and one for R22K. You can decide :)

They did apparently fix it, probably find they put thermal pads over it, which is what they should've done in the first place, cause have you felt the heat coming over those vents.
Or design wise put it at the bottom where the heat doesn't vent :-). I mean hell I'm playing Star Control Origins and it warms up a lot playing that. Granted there are some planets where the game drops to single digits when a lot of lightning strikes.

I received my carry case and screen protector from JSAUX and i must say, not too bad. 9 days from ordering.
