Asus Rog Ally

2k jump from the launch price of the Ally, bit silly as the Ally has dropped quite a bit

It has 8GB more RAM though. And it has (maybe) 1TB SSD, so they increased both. Although for most games 16GB was enough, this future proofs it somewhat.

I know not really much more to be honest

Incredible replaced the mobo on my unit. I wonder how much warranty extension I'll get because it seems these mobos fry sometimes. I still have to collect it.

The Ally X looks like a very decent refresh, the average FPS is more or less the same, slightly higher for the X but the 1% and especially 0.1% lows see huge gains so games should be way more consistent and smooth on the Ally X.

Think my sd card reader is fried. :(
It was fine for a little over a month or so but now it just doesn't read my sd card anymore. I can see all my data when i plug the sd card into my laptop though so the sd card itself is still fine.

Asus pulled a fast one over us. Sadly the laws in SA are useless and once it's past the 6 months or whatever, you can only really get a repair. My ROG took about 5 weeks to be repaired. Apparently the mobo and SSD were replaced, my device was dying and the SD card was working OK because I wasn't using it. The new Ally X is much cooler with better heat dissipation and the SD card reader has been moved.

Oh yes as for warranty extension, Incredible would not say. So probably NO warranty extension.

Returned it to Incredible Corruption Connection today, let's see what they say in a few weeks.

Pinnacle Micro are the repair agents for IC. They attached a paper showing they did the work but did not specify what they did. The guy at IC told me they swapped out the mobo and SSD. The SSD was actually fine I think as the thing failed while it had the Sabrent (upgrade approved by Asus themselves) SSD in it.

For now it works fine with the 2TB Sabrent SSD in it. Windows stated there was an activation problem but I clicked 're activate' or such and it reactivated despite a different mobo I suppose.

(Just to add, I had upgraded my Win 11 Home to Pro with a BOB Shop Code.)

Maybe register it with Asus directly and maybe they'll give you 1 year.

There is a MyAsus app on the device.

Newest AMD driver seems to have introduced a little bit of jitter in games, even old ones like Spec Ops which played smoothly before. Will check things throughly to see if other settings have changed.

Everyone still happy with theirs? It's been quiet here.

Recently upgraded the SSD, using the angle adapter and a 2280 1TB Kingston drive - should have gone 2TB instead.

I'm looking for a dock, to keep the ally in 30w Turbo mode and 120hz refreshrate via HDMI. Something similar to the official Asus dock:

I 3d printed my own Ally stand, so just need something with USB-C and HDMI out.
If there's cheaper unknown brands available.. do share, thanks.

What angle adaptor did you get?
Are you having any performance issues?

No performance issues, however the SSD is a bit slower rated, here:

I can't say I noticed a difference in game loading vs the previous 512gb drive.
