Asus Rog Ally

Does anyone have any form of protection on the device and is it worth it?

Eg. Tempered screen, bumper rubber for joystick, silicone cover, port cover.

Got the covers over the joysticks, otherwise nope. My sons has the screen protector on his. I did buy a silicon case but it didn't feel right and the plastic shell one actually caused it to overheat

Go my ally X. Games from before 2020 running nicely at 80-120fps. Although Sony tiles like GoW run amazing on it, at over 80fps on medium settings.

You can get games from after 2020 to run nicely on it as well, just need to tweak, fiddle with resolutions and such. The thing about PC gaming is tweaking :-)
Though I'm playing Mechwarrior 5 and NMS on mine, still love it just to lay in bed. Even played CyberPunk on it

I'm again looking at the deals and at R8999 is still looking good.

After some time I'm back with my Ex.

I bought an ROG Ally again. R8999 is a very good price even lower than secondhand deals and US and UK deals so let see how it goes. Bought at Makro again.
Welcome back

Okay so looks like afmf2 really is a game changer can set the res to 720p and it upscale nicely to 1080p.
Far cry primal now runs over 60fps, sure not anywhere the native 1440p 144fps my desktop uses. But 7" screen is okay

Other than when Makro had the 14999 sale (until 24 December 2024), is anyone else having the Ally X on sale?

Lossless Scaling new update brings LSFFG 3.0 Works wonders on my ally especially with Marvel Rivals.

Happy anniversary, LSFG!

LSFG 3 is built on a new, efficient architecture that introduces significant improvements in quality, performance, and latency.

Key improvements include:
  • Better quality:
Reduced flickering and border artifacts, with noticeable enhancements in motion clarity and overall smoothness.

  • Lower GPU load:
A 40% reduction for X2 mode compared to LSFG 2 (non-performance mode). Over 45% reduction for multipliers above X2 compared to LSFG 2 (non-performance mode).
The "Resolution Scale" feature remains an excellent way to further reduce GPU load. For instance, setting it to 90% roughly aligns with the LSFG 2 "Performance" mode.

  • Improved latency:
Latency testing with the OSLTT tool (at 40 base FPS, X2) shows approximately 24% better end-to-end latency compared to LSFG 2.

  • Unlocked multiplier:
LSFG 3 also introduces an unlocked multiplier, now capped at X20. While this offers greater flexibility, the following recommendations apply for optimal results:

Base framerate: A minimum of 30 FPS is required (40 FPS or higher is preferred, with 60 FPS being ideal) at 1080p.
For best overall experience, locking the game framerate is recommended. This helps to avoid 100% GPU load (reducing its impact on latency) and ensures smoother framepacing.
For higher resolution use at higher than recommended framerates or use the "Resolution Scale" option to downscale input to 1080p:
For 1440p, set it to 75%.
For 4K, set it to 50%.

Higher multipliers (e.g., X5 or above) are best suited for high refresh rate setups, such as:

    48 FPS × X5 for 240Hz.
    60 FPS × X6 for 360Hz.
    60 FPS × X8 for 480Hz.

I heard the new update is really good, it performs much better, they fixed the head glitching when you look around, x3 is basically the old x2 now so you can triple your frames.

Looks good to me. Not too complicated in theory, but looking for a good guide or general guideline to get this going with optimal performance

It's pretty easy. Works best for me to put the game in windowed mode and then scale it then you don't need to play around with your device resolution. On the Ally or other similar devices use performance mode x2 frame gen and for the upscaler I really like LS1.

LSFG 2 in performance mode instead of LSFG 3?

My Ally just stopped charging. I tried different chargers and cables. It's either the USB c port or some other issue.

I tried some suggested solutions but to no avail. It seems to be a common issue on reddit.
Even disconnected the battery for a full powercycle. No power left in the battery at the moment so this handheld is dead.

Anybody else had an issue before?
