Asus Rog Ally

Switch is for casuals, so yes he could, but he probably has a Steam library already and free Epic games can't be beaten.
Steam is by far better in terms of affordability as well, yes Nintendo eshop has specials but nothing beats the steam sales especially Black Friday.

My steam back log is 50+ games since 2021 lol.

Yes. Hence Nintendo is more for casuals who will buy one or two games a year at best and play these, eg Mario Kart. But gamers will want huge collections of games.

I've been gaming on the PlayStation for years, so Nintendo is not for me. My preferred genre is turn based strategy, first game I'm going to buy is Final Fantasy Tactics.

Then you're gonna be happy. Steam has a lot of the RPG stuff and often on huge sale.

And I just got sold....

Xbox Ally will support external displays and docks using hardware upscaling via a dedicated NPU.

10 bucks say they're going the Nintendo Switch route with the next Xbox Series console come 2028.

Yeah, I want one.

There are some docks out there currently for the current ally’s that allows the external GPU, network ect. But there Isn’t a dedicated docking station like the Switch, they are all 3rd party for the Ally’s.

Just note these things weigh a ton lol, I just use my dad bod fat belly to balance it on when gaming.

Buy portable device at a premium price - check
Attach said device to a dock that also costs a premium price - check
Never remove it from the dock and use it as a PC at premium prices with lower graphics than a cheaper desktop equiv - check

Optional - "I could play anywhere if I wanted to" - check

xD

You won't be able to buy it locally though. And given Rog Ally OG quality control issues, you'll have to be a gambler with unclear odds to buy one.

My one failed on me within the guarantee year and I had to had it repaired at Pinnacle Micro. It wasn't even the SD card issue. I've never had a computing device fail on me this way, going back to the 90s.

There are benefits with that. Like what we had with old Nintendo Switch and 2 x docks.
If you share the large TV in the lounge, yet have back-up access to smaller TVs.

That, sadly, is the second hurdle, 1st one being the price.

Lol no doubt. Was referring to myself mostly

The only reason it's fresh on my mind is cause my wife is currently limited to the bedroom on Switch 2 due to the lack of docks for it.

I ain't moving all the plugs either, so trying to ignore the skimping when she play handheld next to me.

I’m sure there will be parallel imports like what Makro and Incredible will do initially.

ASUS will “ eventually “ stock them here.

If memory serves me correctly the OG XBox 1 also took a few months to officially be launched here. So I’m blaming Xbox for the non official release here “ yet “

Cant exactly blame XBox/Microsoft as none of the other big names support SA either.

Koodoo = Playstation SA
Core = Nintendo
and so on.

Think our market is too small to support officially.

There is a difference between an authorised reseller and a parallel import.

Yeah and neither = Officially supported.

One just has a license.

Sony SA will just laugh at you if you take your PlayStation to them for a warranty claim. You have to take it to PartServe who is contracted by Koodoo (Old SK) to fix/replace.
