I'm currently in the market for a new ultrabook, and the model that seems to best suit my needs is the ASUS Zenbook 3 UX390. It has everything I need, but has one drawback, which is its single USB Type C port.
Now while having only a single port isn't ideal, I understand that there are several adapters out there that can largely remedy any issues I could potentially run into. Problem is, I can't seem to find any of them locally.

There are reports that "3rd party" adapters do not always work with this ultrabook, with charge through not functioning, for example, so I would only consider this ultrabook if I could find an official ASUS adapter. Does anybody know of any local distributors that may sell this adapter, or similar ASUS products like it? I really don't see the logic in selling an ultrabook like this in SA if the accessories needed to make it viable aren't available.

If you can afford that, then you can afford to import through scott's (search for scotts import on this forum) or even importitall.co.za.

Locally you would need to check with asus resellers, which sofar I dont see them having the newer usb-c units

They both support power passthrough and the zenbook 3 you mentioned, but I see people mentioning that the charging randomly stops working till you unplug/replug the dock in. Rather look for a different ultrabook without such a stupid issue :P

...or get one of those 1port macbooks, install windows 10 on it and you will have access to a lot of local adapters at inflated fruit prices :D

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll definitely look into that!

Yeah its not the ideal laptop, but its the best I could find for my requirements. A macbook is what I would usually get, but I really need 16gigs of ram, and then I'm looking at close to double the price of the zenbook :wtf:

I have a Macbook. I've only ever used. 3rd party adapters. Specifically the Macally brand.

The Chinese no name brands only last a couple of months.
