Not really, I dont give a **** if you insult atheism. I respond equally to all deceptive bull**** :)

I personally dont think there is a crazier argument in this thread than:

Perhaps next pacifist peaceniks should don jackboots, khaki uniforms and march around giving stiff arm salutes while just chucking out the violent fascism aspect.

Except - again, no it isn't. They don't get together to sing about the joys of not believing in God. How are you still struggling with this? They get together to sing and have fun for its own sake, and to celebrate life.

i was teasing there :p thus the :p

i can get what he wants from these events, it's not about atheism, it's about the closeness minus god. when anyone says atheist church first person i think of is the atheists in PD who start 100 topics on god :p
 
yes perhaps one should not use any hyperbole when discussing something so serious as a sad bunch of atheists

Tempers have flared, battle stations are being manned, their brethren are under siege, mortal danger is everywhere, tension so thick you can taste it.....

Its new, give them a few years and they will be swimming in it.
Tithes are like any other donation, you have to choose to give them. They might try the moral route but Im sure they wouldnt kick anyone out if they refused.

You are confusing a charitable organisation with a gathering of people to celebrate religion or lack thereof, your round table argument is completely irrelevant.

Theyre not celebrating the lack of religion dude. That was covered in many posts. You are not reading their opinion. You are just imposing your own belief about what you think they are. They are meeting to celebrate life. People with gods are welcome there.

Im still confused about how Im imposing my view on them, my points were simple:
1. they are a gathering of people in a designated place on a Sunday who have music followed by some talks.
2. they require donations to fund it.

The only difference from a conventional church is belief in a deity but the rest is all the same.
At some point the donations will outweigh the need and the people at the top of the chain will start to become rich from it.

River ministries in EL is a good point in case of the above happening.
 
Also, this thing will inevitably die a slow death.

How do you manage an organisation where nobody can tell anybody what they are or are not allowed to do ?

You believe theyre getting together to celebrate religion or lack thereof. That is the false belief you are imposing on them. Hence the reason why I corrected you.

So you accuse with no evidence. I imagine a large group of sceptics might not be as easy to fleece as a "faithful" religious flock. Sorry man, there are many groups that get together that are not religious that ask for donations that dont turn into River Ministries.

A religion also tells you that if you dont live by XYZ you are going to hell. There are repercussions in the after life if you dont fall in with their dogma. Your immoral soul is at risk, etc ,etc! There are so many differences I just think you have this TNB impression of how religions are, and are imposing this on a non-religious gathering. The only things these gatherings have in common is people getting together for a common cause, and perhaps singing. There is nothing else.
