I'm not sure what exactly causes this dynamic to develop but it probably is linked to those people that practise on the witchcraft side of muti. A successful outsider becomes an easy target when resentment starts brewing round the fireplace, after too many beers have been consumed, pipes smoked, okes start sh#t talking about people and so the process starts.

Someone tried to cut his leg off with a saw, there are much easier ways to hurt yourself if you are a fraud than this. This I can barely even read without getting shivers down my spine.
 
UPDATE: Chainsaw attack victim recovering after surgery

Mhlengi Gwala, the Ndwedwe athlete who’s brutal attack sent shockwaves across SA, is healing well and in good spirits.

The nightmare unfurled in the early hours of last week Wednesday, when Gwala was training on Rick Turner Road near UKZN.

He was on his way to meet friend and fellow triathlete and lifeguard Sandile Shange at King Edward Hospital when he was jumped by three men who dragged him off the road and proceeded to try cutting off his legs with a chainsaw.

Despite having mechanical issues with the chainsaw, the men decided to keep trying, eventually sawing all the way to the bone, severing most of the muscles, tendons and arteries in his leg but fortunately not hitting the main artery.

Eventually the attackers gave up and Gwala grabbed his phone to try calling the police, who did not respond.

Realising it was up to himself, Gwala crawled up to the road where he was spotted by a passing car and rushed to hospital.

Since the attack, Gwala has said that he offered them his belongings but they clearly were not interested in robbing him. He also said his attackers did not speak Zulu, but another language which he could not understand.

He underwent a successful five hour operation on Thursday to repair the damage to his lower right leg. Team South Africa’s Olympic Doctor Kevin Subban visited him in his Durban hospital on Thursday to guide his recovery and rehabilitation plans.

“Considering the extent of the injury to his right calf, where he was cut right to the bone through nerves and blood vessels and the three main muscle groups, it is expected that the surgery took around five hours to complete,” said Subban.

“Holding him in good stead is his pre-conditioning. He is fit and healthy which we hope will help him,” Subban said, adding that Gwala’s strong character would be an asset in his recovery.

My bone-chilling ordeal

Triathlon star Mhlengi Gwala’s attackers spoke a language he did not understand when they lay into his leg with a saw.

“It was a funny language. I didn’t hear the words. They were not speaking isiZulu,” he said from his bed at Durban’s Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital yesterday.

It’s not far from where the horrific assault took place, near the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Howard College campus. He recalled it was an African language.

“I didn’t understand (them) but I’m still confused.”

“They cut me and then the one who was cutting stopped and then he went to look (at something). I don’t know what he was checking. But then he came back and said (to the others), ‘let’s go,’ and then they ran away.”

Cut to the bone, Gwala lay on the roadside in agony. His attackers took none of his possessions, though he offered them his bike, phone and watch.

Apart from the grotesque image there's no difference between this and attacking someone with a panga. The mindset of the perpetrator is similar.
 
This is the kak that gets me:

Why in ****'s god must the onus be on me? Why don't you do your Fkcing job and make sure it's safe wherever I might roam?

You can jog wherever the fkc you want in other counties because there is effective government.
