That's a longwinded acknowledgement that many people in this country refuse to move on from Apartheid. Odd, in my experience it appears to be the township dwellers who are caught in the past.

Many road races go through or near dodgy areas. I run pretty much every weekend and while nothing like this has ever happened to me, I have on occassion wondered what the hell the organisers were thinking.

You'd think a jogger would have nothing that these idiots would want, but they'll steal your sweaty underwear off you if they have the opportunity.

Stop calling people racist. The criminals who did this are beneath animals - despite their colour. You assume that they're being called animals because of skin colour. You are showing prejudice because of race. That makes you the racist.

I drove along this road on Sunday afternoon and saw all the runners; I commented to my wife that they were looking for trouble by running this route. I was not surprised to see that the lady in question had been attacked. I feel very sorry for her and her family.

I blame the organizers for staging that section of the race past a well known criminal hotspot, I hope she sues them.

I have a intimate knowledge of the area in question as it falls within the walmer police stations area and I work there as a reservist, I have attended many assault, rape and murders scenes in the immediate vicinity and there have also been many well publicized attacks on that section of the road.

The race organizer should have coordinated with the local police and community organizations to ensure that there was adequate security along that section.

The road runs through an extremely bushy area and one side of the road is bordered by the poorer sections of Walmer Township, this section is a squalid shanty town that is known to contain a dangerous criminal element.

It is an extremely difficult to patrol as there are long straight sections of road allowing good visibility of approaching vehicles, plenty of good hiding places within spitting distance of the road, poor lighting at night, good escape routes through the shacks.

They need to put all wall or fence along this section, but that would proberly be called racist or unconstitutional.

You also have to be careful of the cows, donkeys, sheep and goats when driving there at night; I have seen plenty of accidents there caused by animals

I do put the blame on the organisers, they selected the route, they did not inform the Walmer SAPS that they would be staging the race along that section of road.

The organiser have stated that next year the race will be run through Mount Pleasant which is a much safer route.

It is the organiser duty and responsibility to ensure the safety of the participants, they failed to do so by selecting to run part of it along a well known danger area. Therefore they should be liable.

This does not mean that I dont hold the local totsi scum accountable, but in this instance it was to expected that something of this nature would occur.

Of course yes.

I work most weekends as a reservist and we spend most of the night inside the township.

There are usually 2 to 3 murders a weekend and plenty of other violent crimes.

It is general knowledge in PE that this stretch of Victoria Road is Dangerous and should be avoided, yet these idiots saw fit to plan a road race along it

Its not racists its fact, even my fellow black reservist admit to that.
