OK Guys, I'm going to buy a new PC after been out of action for a couple of years :o now I haven't followed the trends and such but I have to decide between NVidia and ATI...

The options are:
ATI: R4870-T2D1G OC
NVidia: N260GTX-T2D896 OC

Both MSI. I will be using it with an MSI Intel motherboard with a quad core CPU and 4GB 1066mhz Ram... If that helps.

Which one should I go with?

irrespective of the cards and their specs, it all boils down to which color you prefer over the other . . . green or red? ;)

it might be but if there was a brand that had blue as a trademark color i would buy it even if it was *****tier than both the other two

Look at the prices now, I would rather go with team RED as their GFX is affordable at this stage you can get a 4870 1024mb for 2400.00 new and it smacks the 260 216. Look at the review on guru3d.com .PC int R2337.00 for the TOXIC range of cards-what a bargain.

Thanks for replies :D I've always been an ATI fan myself. I've always used MSI in the past and never had any problems with them. I will get the 4870 then!

Both will serve you well, one will be stronger than the other in some areas, and visa versa. Set your budget, look at your preference and you will have your answer.

Either way you cannot go wrong.

4870 doesn't smack a 216 260. They're about on par. It really doesn't matter which one you get.....I'd go for the 4870 personally because it's a bit cheaper but that's all.

I can get the 4870 for about R100 more... The total PC will cost me 13K Ex VAT, not too much but it will serve my needs for now

Kewl, so I've decided on the components, here is the list of what will go in the PC:

Inwin 750W Commander PSU
MSI Intel P45 Neo-F Motherboard
MSI R4870-T2D1G ATI
Intel ® Core 2 Quad Q9400 Yorkfield 2.66 GHz 8Mb OD Cache .045um
Apacer 2x 2048MB DDR2 240-Pin DIMM, 1.8V (DDR8500 - 1066MHz)
LG GH22LS30 DVD Writer
Samsung 2333SW 23" Wide LCD, WUXGA, 1920 x 1080, 5ms, Contrast DC 20000:1
Logitech X-540 - 5.1 Sound
500GB Seagate SATA II
(I have a Logitech gaming kbd and mouse from previous system)

Will this be able to handle the latest games at high quality?

4 GIG RAM

I run almost every single game on high with 2GB ram at 1920x1080, so the answer would be fsck yeah!

never heard of that PSU though, how much are you paying for it?
