Which of the 2 brands would you guys prefer and why?

Taking all the different technologies that the company has produced (Pure video, CUDA, PHYSX, SLi etc.)(Avivo, DirectX10.1, Crossfire etc.)

thats a sensitive topic thats like asking pc vs mac

I have had both and am currently with nvidia how ever watching what AMD/ATI is planning I would no doubt go with ATI as long term they are headed in the right direction however in saying that Intel is launching there new gpu soon so maby hold out till then I personally hate Intel.

fyi

ati is the only gpu which has its own 7.1 sound native processor built into its boards with hdmi out Nvidia needs a loop back cable in order to push sound to an hd tv.

ATi for price and performance. Whilst nVidia for arms and legs and better performance than ATi in the high end bracket.

Really?

I always see people posting here on mybb how Ati beats nvidia in performace and price:confused:

it beats the nVidia's for THAT price-range.

or

at the same price, the ATI beats the nvidia.

personally had about 2 x 3Dfx, then 3 nVidia's, and now an ATI. happiest with the ATI so far... touch wood

I like nVidia mostly because I've never had a problem with their cards, their software is decent and uncluttered (I don't like Catalyst Control Center at all) and everything down to nVidia's site is appealing. Oh, and their logo is green (favourite colour). It really just boils down to aesthetics and preference.

I would never choose ATi for my own rig, mostly because I've had three cards that have fried, CCC is just vile, in my opinion, and there's really just nothing about the brand or company that appeals to me. I do believe that newer ATi cards are tempting with their price : performance ratio, but I'd much rather pay a few hundred bucks more for something I'd prefer.

nVidia's new settings suck - can't tune anything!

CCC has everything! even fan speed! (not sure if the newer nvidia software has it)

Whatchoo talkin' about? I can adjust fan and clock speeds in the nVidia CP :erm:

as i said i wasn't sure:rolleyes:

I haven't used nVidia for almost a year... but last time I used it the control panel was pretty boring

I can't say it's gotten much better though :p

But I guess I like the simplicity, I think it looks "neater."

Ah Ok...that's not too bad :p

nVidia had a crapload of settings till the the drivers in my screenshot - I wen't like "were the heck did everything go??"

the CCC isn't such a mess as you make it out to be though :p

Seems like you were just unlucky with ATI, I've had the same problem with Nvidia(6600GT,7900GT, 8800GT).

My first card was a Radeaon 9800XT and it pomped :p Currently have a HD4850 and it runs well.

Best thing is to buy which ever brand that has the best card in your price bracket at the time of your purchase.

hehe :D

Well, nVidia "System Tools" unlocks the "Performance" and "System Update" tabs in the CP (as I've just been politely reminded :p) So expect it to be mostly bland with just the drivers installed.

And alright, I concede, CCC isn't that bad, but it just feels "cluttered" to me.

Like I said, it all boils down to preference :p

@ Brawler - I agree and I understand, entirely, that these kind of things just have their Murphey's Law about them. So... let's stick to me preferring the nVidia CP and logo :p

I think instead of nVidia vs ATi, a better idea would be manufacturer vs manufacturer. I confess myself an Asus fanboi :p

manufacturer vs manufacturer is pointless - unless you're looking at some Overclocked XXX Alphadog Dual Watercooled Hydra Black Edition Setup or whatever the cards are mostly alike... just a different box, Bonus software/Games, manual and Card sticker. and warranty. the biggest change they make on the cards is a different cooling fan or something...

It should be pointless but some manuf still like to charge more for the same thing *cough* asus :D

Pff... *hurls confetti at you two*

I love Asus' support >.>

And their driver/updates/whatever support page >.<'

/me runs off crying!!!

forget ati or nvidia go buy a 3dfx voodoo2 12 mb sli that puppy and you can push 1024x768 :) with 16 bit depth
