Despite the advertising hype on MyBB, I haven't seen any feedback about this ISP. Their rep seems to have made a total of one post as of this moment.

Is anyone here using this ISP? They're a tad cheaper than Cool Ideas, but don't positively advertise the service as uncapped / unshaped. They also have this blog post about capping and shaping but then don't actually specify what their network actually does.

This is the place to share experiences!

Hey @newby_investor, as we are in Cape Town + Frogfoot/Octotel only (at this stage) + we only launched publicly in August, when you posted, it stands to reason nobody answered :p

I've actually been in touch, I think Michael responded to my questions.

Going to sign up in the coming months and post some feedback.

But welcome to MyBroadBand!

@nicksoper

The main reason I posted in the Cool Ideas thread about Octotels GPON network was a lot of people complaining about Octotels network saying it's congested ect ect. Obviously I don't know the split ration they use so can't comment if the OLT is getting congested or not but you reckon it's not so I'm neutral on that mainly because I don't live in CPT or use Octotel.

I'm using Openserve on Supersonic. I just found atomic fibre ISP interesting and was amazed how you guys can offer 1Gbps at such affordable prices. You probably never going to go on openserve right? IPC is too expensive.

I "guess" the issue is less about GPON and OLT's and more about backhaul. Problems crop up, stuff needs to get upgraded.

We did a trial on Openserve, decided we wanted to wait a bit for IPC to be more reasonable and also get a bit bigger as an ISP so we could have better relationships to offer a level of service we want to.

Also forgot to mention during our trial we worked out our Openserve prices would probably be about 40% more than our Octotel or Frogfoot services (and we wouldn't be making any more money on those plans...)

So, I signed up last week, Octotel came today to install my line (wife was home) and in the evening when I got home and plugged in my router, I was already live.

Signed up for the entry-level 10/5 package. Some speedtest results:

So far, I'm pretty impressed. Anyone want a referral, just PM me ;)

Anyone on Atomic Access with a 100Mbps line willing to do some speedtests to e.g. London and Vienna (UPC preferred) please?

Any update on when you guys will go live on Vumatel?

These guys offer 100/25 for the same price as CISP 20/20, which is very enticing. However, I have questions around shaping, FUP, and support. Their websites indicates they don't have a call center, and in all likely hood everything is being managed by a small team. As frustrating as a call center can be, when the doo doo hits the fan how are these guys going to manage?

I've been with them for a couple of months now and my experience has been positive, granted I'm on one of the entry-level lines. Had an issue with Octotel around signal levels which Atomic escalated quickly enough. Tech support guy (team?) is impressively responsive, even over weekends / evenings. For a start-up, not very bad service at all.

We are being responsible as we grow/expand to new regions/networks so that we can continue to provide the level of service we would want/expect ourselves. Vumatel is on our radar and I would like to offer Vumatel services this year.

Shaping/Throttling: We don’t have capping or shaping software on our network. We just ensure we have extra bandwidth/capacity available so everyone can use the internet without us messing with it - how it’s meant to be. Our 80% rule means when we reach 80% of our capacity, we get more. That way we can grow and continue this way of working.

Support: We have an outbound support philosophy and proactively monitor various metrics on our network including bandwidth/latency, gaming servers, and productivity tools. We tend to let people know before there is an issue, and reach out to customers if we think there is a problem. This tends to avoid a massive influx of calls and emails which requires a call centre/support center. When we say we don’t have a call center it means you can speak to someone who really knows the business and really wants to help.

@nicksoper So you're saying the migration/re-connection fee is the same as a new install?
View attachment 662334
Frogfoot charge ISP's the same for a Installation/Migration/Reconnect. MyBB did an article on switching fees a while back here. We've asked if they could consider reviewing the costs ‍♂️. Sometimes fibre networks have to replace an ONT, ONT power supply, or fix a line break. It's fairly frequent.

We have the PayPlan to reduce the upfront cost, and automatically move customers to the month to month plan once they are done (instead of baking in freebies into the monthly fee in perpetuity). It's our first crack at a fair way of dealing with the up front costs of fibre.
