This is a wake up call to me .. again .. i've been getting faaar too lax lately.
My unbidden thoughts on this:
1 - Make your home as impenetrable as you can afford.
2 - Implement a warning system that will warn you when the impenetrable borders are broken.
3 - Have a weapon of some kind that you'll HAVE TO USE to defend yourself from those that are desperate enough to actually get through your protection. This weapon must be effective long range AND in hand-to-hand. Also, spend some time now to get to know what YOU can and cannot do to remove an assailant permanently from your body, so that you don't waste time trying to do stuff that you're not strong enough to do to your attacker.
4 - Have transport and a credit card readily available to get you to a hospital and pay for it because you cannot rely on anything that the governmint provides with our money.
5 - Try to prepare yourself mentally for the worst, you may come up against a wall of hate that can shock you mentally worse than physically.
6 - Don't kid yourself, sooner or later it will happen to you, prepare.
... these could perhaps help ...
7 - Remove the "bling" if you can. Don't tempt a desperate person into action.
8 - Know your neighbors and try to arrange an "i need help" system, that will not endanger your neighbors, like them soccer hooters or something, so that the attackers will hear them answering the call or something like that.
I like the soccer hooters thing, I'm going to give it a shot on our block and see what the peeps do.
