Hi Guys,

I am new to the DSTV installation world. I have taken the leap to attempt a HD PVR 2P installation myself, and learnt alot from reading through all the posts here.

I am a novice at TV installations and require your help please.

I will try to be as brief, yet detailed as possible as to what I require. The house is double storey.

My current Setup:
- Single LNB to Single view DSD990 decoder on SD TV (ground level).
- DSTV Signal split two 2 other TV's via decoder RF OUT and Ellies Amplifier (1x ground level, 1x upper level)

To-Be PVR and dual view Setup:
- Replace single LNB with Elsat SATCR Lnb 4+1
- Replace DSD 990 with HD PVR 2P (on ground level)
- Connect 1x co-ax from lnb to primary view PVR (on ground level)
- Move old DSD 990 (and replace with 1131?) to dual view location (on upper level)
- Connect 1x co-ax (universal) to secondary dual view location (on upper level)
- Split PVR signal via RF out on ground level to additional tv on ground level.
- Split Secondary dual view decoder on upper level to additional tv on upper level.

1. I assume that I will have to replace the DSD 990 with a 1110/31 to enable dual view?
2. I read about a heart-beat monitor. I assume I also need it in the above setup? If so, is it a normal co-ax cable, and will I still be able to split from the pvr to an additional tv on ground level?
3. Will the split of the dual view decoder on the upper level, enable the additional tv to tune to both the "dual" channels of the PVR or the single view?
4. Is there any problems or flaws in the design, or can it work?

I appreciate ANY feedback or suggestions.

Regards

you got prety much everything right except you mentioned the Dual view decoder? the HD pvr isnt a dual view its 1 view 1 record, so any tvs watching that decoder will watch the same thing. and its not a heart beat monitor its a heart beat cable and yes its just a normal rf cable you would use

Also any specific reason you want the 2nd decoder (oh and yes has to be 1110 /31) in another room, (except for the tv conected to it having it on the AV as aposed to RF)
May i recomend instead of the SATCR just get a dual lnb and a 2X4 multi switch if cheaper and will do the same job as a SATCR, then run 2 cables from the lnb to the tv room , those 2 into the multi switch, then 2 cables from there into the HD PVR and one cable into the DSD - then the you put both decoders in the same room then link them with a heart beat cable (proabably RF in to RF in) then on the RF out of one of the decoders to the current Elleis amplifier - this way all 3 tv's can watch both decoders and your wirework is less as you have the spliting already done

Gonna be doing this as soon as I have mula. Wifey reckons I must pay for the install...

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure I understand correctly? The HD PVR 2P is fully Extra view capable as far as I understand?

Apologies, I meant cable.

This is a better idea, thanks, much easier to install. I will still go for the sat cr though. Just a question, how would I change the channels from the upper level if both decoders are downstairs? Which remote blaster etc will work best through concrete floor and walls?

I assume the 1132 will also work seen here?http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/62356962/Brand_New_Boxed_DSD_1132_Decoders_from_MultiChoice.html ?

Thanks for the valuable input, I really appreciate!

Hehe, this side, my wife reckons, we not gonna pay, apparently I know enough to self-install! I'm thinking, no ways...this looks way complicated. I spent a week researching and still struggling!

Thanks for the reply.

Yep it is extra view capable, but the decoder itself still has only 1 view, the second view comes from the second deoder

Thanks for the reply.

if taking the satcr ,the satcr port goes to the hd pvr and the legacy ( or univrsal) goes to the standard decoder- my sugestion on using a dual and multi swithc works if you later plan to upgrad the second decoder to another hd its already set up, but if not the satcr is fine
for changing channels, either get the remote eye for the other tv rooms though it might not work with your elies splitter its finiky :) the elies remote blasters work pretty well through concrete, used it at my folks home they got thick concrete slabs

Wow never seen that decoder yet :D i dont think its on the dstv website educated guess is its extraview capable, but dont take my word as gospel though,

And happy to assist

He means it not dual view, not that its not XV capable. i.e view 1 channel while you record another

Yup, the 1132 are the latest decoders & are XV capable

Thanks for the reply, I think I understand now, the only decoder that is dual view is the SD PVR right?

Would you buy the 1132 from that bidorbuy seller? Just for interest sake.

Guys,

I have put together a diagram of how I think the setup could work. Please see link in this post.

if someone has some time, please have a look at it, and see what you think.

A few additional questions I have for now is:

1. Will the 1132 decoder be fine, as I see in other threads people mentioned some issues with it.

2. In this setup, will I be able to watch both channels on all sets?

3. Should the RF HB cable go into RF in on both decoders?

4. Will the one signal amplifier be enough, and do I have the correct one listed? Or should I look at some power supply / setback amp setup?

5. I only need to operate a remote in Room 1 (1f). Which solution would work here, remote blaster / extender?

6. I assume RF Terrestrial (ie. SABC 1,2,3,E) apart from the two DSTV channels, will not be available in this setup?

Thanks again
