Afternoon all,

I was with a mates' SO (lets call her Pam) this past weekend and she told that there is a woman, she know that while HIV positive. Goes out and sleeps with random men when she goes out partying.
Now mind you, everybody needs to let off some sleep but isn't this a crime of some sort. Just the fact alone that she knows her status and chooses to still sleep around without informing the other party.

Thoughts? Does anyone still pick chicks up at bars :erm:
Pam also told me some tidbits about what goes on at hospitals as she is a nurse...Shocking stuff

She is 22, 2 kids, not working and flipping gorgeous... No pics :p This is a semi-serious thread.

Disclaimer: Insert I know so and so person here.

If you're sleeping with someone that you just picked up, you deserve the AIDS. Good on her for cleaning them out from society.

I faintly recall there being a precedent for this.
Interesting reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_transmission_of_HIV

Not sure if it could be murder or manslaughter though.

Is your mate's name Jim?

If so, I think I missed this episode, but it makes sense...

:wtf:

Promiscuity is not a crime ... knowingly infecting someone with HIV is (the last time I checked). I vaguely remember being a case like this a long time ago in SA. If she knows she is infected then she should be insisting on using a condom...even though I think the responsibility is shared ..... she is the one that knows her status.

It's not promiscuity, it's stupidity. Promiscuity and safety are not mutually exclusive.

Yes ... but by your post it sounds like "pick someone up at a club and sleep with them and you deserve to get Aids"? I think many a guy and woman have hooked up with a stranger in a club etc. Is it the smartest thing to do considering the danger (including being raped or asaulted?) ... no ... but we are all human and most of us have done something like this in our lives. Does that mean we deserve to get "the aids" as you put it? No ... I do not believe so.

Does this woman deserve to be charged with some kind of crime if she is knowingly sleeping with someone without insisting on protection? Yes I do believe so.

Yeah, people have been charged with attempted murder if they sleep with someone knowing they have HIV. Difficult to get a conviction on that, though.

I can share some of my own experiences

Emergency patient buzzers being ignored
Patients screams for help being ignored
Machine alarms being ignored
Patients left clinging to walls being ignored
Openly mocking patients
Using equipment known to be faulty
Not taking any hygienic precautions
Inability to simply insert an IV or withdraw blood
Stuffing up procedure preparations but going through with it anyway
Lying to cover above mentioned transgressions
Ambiguous prescriptions from doctors leading wrong dosage

Its culpable homicide or assault, then once the person dies, its murder. (intent)
I would have this reported to the SAPS
