So I am relocating to Richards Bay for 6 months or maybe longer, and will be working in Empangeni.
Would be great to know what area's are nice and clean and also adsl friendly if possible :)

Also if anyone knows of a good place available for rent please pm me.
 
Yeah, Richards Bay was removed from the map as nobody lives there anymore... :(
 
we have a few apartments in meerensee. how long is your stay going to be for? you will find difficulty in getting a place for only 6 months ... 1 year lease is reasonable.

try teh Zululand Observer for garden flats.

Man, I miss Richards Bay .... it is a cool place to live.... fishing is great there ....
Almost a little extension of Gauteng....

Yeah my contract is only 6 months, could be extended, but that depends on whether I like Richards Bay or not...

How is the highway between Empangeni and Richards Bay (Meerensee)? I can see on google maps that it's about 20km's distance but only one highway between.
 
I must admit it has been a while since I was last there ....

the high is cool - dont worry, there is also a back road to rbay from emp.

I preferred rbay to emp becasue of its proximity to the sea and I loved my fishing. my lovely wife and I used to go fishing almost every weekday... with a couple beers ...

just be wary that it is flippin hot and humid there ... many people dont like that .... I personally loved it since it did wonders for my skin and my overall health.
 
Oh my gawd, where are you relocating from? You might find it rather tough if you're moving from a big city. To be honest, I find Empangeni to be dirty and unbelievably boring, however the church kids got together a few weeks ago to clean it up as part of a church camp they were on. BTW, if you're in Richards Bay, go to the new Porky's overlooking the bay and order the eisbein - it's delicious and about 2kg in size - much better than the old one (if you remember it at all...)

Oh and the other thing you'll find is that Richard's Bay has one mall and the kids view it as the pinnacle of social entertainment...
 
Relocating from Jhb, so yeah, I'm expecting a big change, if I hate it, it's only 6 months right?

I just can't decide whether to rent in Empangeni closer to the work place or somewhere in Richards Bay...
 
1. Take your asthma pump if ur going on an extended stay. The long terms effects of factory pollution there are pretty bad (especially for kids). There are 2 Aluminium smelters and a paper factory, none of which give off good stuff. There may be new polluting factories since I left.
2. Meerensee is probably your best location (IMO)
3. ADSL shouldn't be a problem anywhere
4. Enjoy the flippin awesome water, harbour and weather
5. Get a place with a pool (or be close to the sea) and an air conditioner (air con is non negotiable for summer)
6. Say goodbye to any form of city night life you may be accustomed to. Better yet, learn to enjoy small town entertainment (may not be easy for some)
7. Good choice in not staying in Empangeni. Richards Bay is a LOT better. [EDIT: I see you just posted... if you choose Empangeni, you will not enjoy it nearly as much.]

Richard's Bay is far better. Particularly Meerensee. Empangeni is a schithole.

That place gets fsck hot is all I can say.

Empangeni is a schithole and just as hot.

My one mate did a couple of months working in richardsbay while renting in empangeni. He was new there so the one day he was out in the garden by the pool and he spotted this 'black dude' on the neighbours roof, thinking the worst he shouted "Hey, what you doing up there!?" to which the dude replied "I'm fixing my roof", so it was his neighbour. I lol'ed mao when I heard that :D :D
 
Krepunk - As the others have said Meerensee is OK area,The road between Empangeni/Rbay is getting upgraded atm,its a bitch of a road during peak hours with traffic & not a good road,that may improve once they finish what their doing there but they have already been at it for a long time already.
4 bdrm house Meerensee your looking at +/- 7K/month area.Richards Bay CBD/Aboretum a little lower
Adsl don't know as i'm only here half the time & use 3G.
Empangeni haven't spent much time that way but don't think the others comments are far off the mark.

I forgot all about Porky's ....

I was having a few beers there when the whole 9/11 fiasco unfolded ..... that was a cool place....
