Johannesburg - Businessman Atul Gupta will face
disciplinary charges for misconduct and for embarrassing
the ANC following the Waterkloof air force base debacle.
The leaders of his branch in Ward 117, Joburg, which
includes Saxonwold, Rosebank and Parktown last night
decided to press charges against him for the incident,
which saw a plane full of Gupta wedding guests land at the
base.
Police VIP blue lights were used in cars ferrying the guests
to the wedding venue in Sun City.
Branch secretary Tebogo Khaas has confirmed that the
branch executive committee decided to go ahead with the
charges.
Gupta will be formally notified about these as well as the
date of the hearing as soon as the disciplinary committee
has been appointed, he said.
Atul Gupta is the only of the Gupta brothers whose
membership of the branch is still in good standing.
Government has launched its own investigation into the
matter and a preliminary report was concluded on
Tuesday.
Officials and ministers discussed the report on Saturday,
and promised to have a press conference soon to make
public the findings.
Khaas sent a letter to branch chairperson and businessman
Sipho Sithole last Monday asking for disciplinary
proceedings againt Gupta.
The letter was also sent to Joburg regional secretary Dada
Morero and Gauteng ANC secretary David Makhura.
In the letter, he said Gupta has “intentionally, or through
wilful negligence encouraged others to use his association
and close proximity to the senior leadership of the ANC”
to effect the landing, which was irregular.
Gupta’s spokesperson, Gary Naidoo, earlier said the
businessman was unaware of any action against him, and
was attending a wedding in India.

I don't think Uncle Atul gives a flying fart about being charged or kicked out of the ANC.

From a public perspective, how is this meant to address the fact that our 'premier military airbase' was used as a private airport?

It's a joke.

It places the anc in a very difficult situation, because if they don't prosecute the guptas, then anybody can land at a military air force base.
 
The idea here is that it must seem to you and me that the ANC are doing something when in fact they are doing nothing.
 
I get the idea that the ANC will make a worse mistake and enhance on their current embarrassment level. Things like these should be done internally; the Gupta’s made it known to make a show in the public eye.

Or they are announcing these actions to calm the public in relation with this embarrassment and meanwhile continue to gratuitously accept Gupta gratifications and let everything slide behind the curtains.
 
Errr...I dont care about him being charged. I care about the people that actually gave permission for this plane to land....and dont come with this "we dont know who and will be investigating" BS!!! You know exactly who gave the permission but you are now to embarrassed to say. Charge the @-holes in government also.

Well since they practically own the ANC they might as well all be members :p
 
It goes a lot deeper than this.

The ANC are between a rock and a hard place with regards to digging up old apartheid legislation from the sess pit of our history to protect those involved in the Nkandla scandal and spending.

Pierre De Vos discusses this in the linked article below.
Nkandla, being a so called national key point, will result in the wrongdoers being protected, but then one must ask, why Waterkloof AFB and the Gupta scandal is not subjected to the same draconian legislation.

I sure as hell hope so.

Heard this morning on the news that goverment now saying that not a single minister knew about the plane being given permission to land at the base. What a joke. It is shocking if not a single one knew (mickey mouse government)....and it is also just as shocking if one knew (banana republic...fun was had by all)

Seriously....the ANC and the goverment of this country is nothing but a fcking joke.
 
I heard on the news today that according to the Guptas, Waterkloof AFB is not a national key point.
 
Would be funny if this resulted in the Gupta's and other families pulling out large investments from SA.

No matter, someone else will fill the gap, as it stands now 'Sahara' is on my do not buy from list. My own little fart against thunder :D
