So I visited Audi.
1.4TSI with S-line kit, 17" wheels, upgrade sound, LED and xenons.

Anyone want to guess the quoted price?

I thought the A1 would only be 1.2tsi motor and then the TDI?

/EDIT/ I stand corrected. Just saw on their site..

Geez, those prices...these guys are on crack.
Sadly, people will still buy this, and i will laugh at them

When you absolutely have to be cool, then you pay whatever it takes. Lots of people will, just like lots of people paid for S3's, they will pay for A1s because they will be the car to have for a while.

Maybe I should stand outside an Audi dealership, and everytime someone buys one, to ask them to select a reason why, from the following list:
1. I want my friends to think I'm cool.
2. I want an Audi but cant afford an A3.
3. I buy whatever society tells me to buy.

Sorry I meant 18" wheels....
Close enough.
R354 000!!! - Thats almost R70 000 for what is really "standard accessories" no GPS, no PDC...
+ they want more for a leather trim, colour coded facia inserts etc etc!!

Lol, imagine what the S1 will cost...

Now that I think about it, the Mini Cooper Chilli pack also cost an extra R30k...
Mmmmm

Rather buy a polo.

depends what you want..
I mean, i would pick a clio sport over the A1,
some people like the image, others like the car underneath the badge

R270k is the base price, without anything.
Its the 1.4TSi, the same engine in the Golf 6, Tiguan and the maybe the new Polo Gti.

And to think the most expensive option in Germany (1.4tfsi, 7spd, 135kW, 250NM, etc) costs 25 000 Euro.
Where are the cheaper options?

The Clio is cool, the Audi is cooler.
Besides, why buy a pocket rocket that loses 20% of its power up here...
Value for money the Clio is a good buy. But it lacks something compared to the A1. I dont the Clio is competing in the Mini Cooper, A1, Fiat 500 market.

I'd rather have a 1995 Mercedes Benz E320, which is exactly what I'm going to buy. Its not exactly a sport compact, I will admit.

Even with the loss in power, it will still be more powerful that the R350k 90 kW Audi.

Dunno if I would put the fiat in the same league as any of them.
I did leave out the alfa mito (not a bad drive either).

The clio lacks the interior and "class" of the A1, no doubt. But in terms of drive, i dont think the A1 will be anywhere as engaging. The mini is closer to the kind of drive, but is a fair whack more expensive.

Yeah screw that. May as well get an A3 2.0T for R330k.

or GTI, Giulietta, Focus ST, a few bob more and you get the megane RS...

Thing I hate about Audi/BMW is the list price is never close to what you pay. The "extra"s are just insane. The a3 2.0t will be more like 380k with extras (I didnt check, just guessing)...
ridiculous

Still, I reckon that a base A3 2.0T is better than an A1 with a few extras.

+1

That being said, some of the things you guys choose as extra's are hardly "standard accesories".
I am very much an audi fan, but looking at the german options and prices, Audi SA is completely mental. Overpricing by about 20%, thats not very smart business strategy. Going to lose a lot of potential customers over this.

No, they wont, because everyone else is doing it, and besides VW owns Audi. They win whether you choose a Polo,Golf, A3 or A1.
