Audi A1

Jeez - some of those options come standard on cars that cost R100 000 less.

Happend to be at melrose arch today, so took a look at this car. Looks smaller than a Polo imo. The 1.4T FSi is between 250-270 the guy told me (has DSG, autobox)... that is ridiculously priced!!! Only does 90kW. Also he confirmed its a 1.4T FSi and not the TSi (according to him no supercharger on the motors).
 
That vs an Alfa MiTo.. Alfa for me thanks. R265k for the top one including CO2 tax. No brainer really.
 
I had a look over the weekend at the dimensions of the A1 and the A3 Sportback.
On the ouside the A1 is only 25mm narrower and about 30cm shorter. On the inside the front seats have more headroom, but apart from that its cabin is a lot smaller than the A3.

TBH, I'm starting to wonder what the plan was for the A1. Its not really that much smaller than the A3, not really cheaper either (unless you count smaller engines than available in the A3). Its more customisable looks-wise, but at a rediculous price. I don't think the managers were very certain about the strategy for the A1 at the planning stages.
 
I'd say its better than the Mito. Probably faster to.
The Mito is to pretty for a guy, where as this A1 will work.

The A1 will not be anywhere near the mito QFV in terms of performance.
I have yet to drive the A1, but I have driven the mito, and its no slouch.

The mito is ugly on the outside, get inside the cabin however and the only ugly thing i could find was the stupid windows logo on the bottom left console.

They're after some of the Mini's market share.

And they will get some of it, because its an Audi :whistle:
 
it's not worth the price at all, everything is an optional extra on the audi website the price is over 300k when you select all the cool stuff

I think we should do some comparitive pricing, spec for spec A1 vs Mini Cooper, the entry level models. The S1 is on the cards so that will take on the Cooper S.

I've heard good things bout the A1 over the weekend from people who were at melrose arch.

The A1 makes 90kw, the Mito is 125kw. Highly unlikely the German is quicker.

So its automatically faster because its an Audi?
Odd, Audi doesn't seem to think so...even with their usual over optimistic 0 - 100 times, they still peg it slower than the mito (Audi reckons 8.9 seconds)
The mito is around 8
You should know, a second faster is quite a bit....

The S1 will be so over priced, it wont be even for a cooper S....maybe a JCW ...maybe.

It didn't bother me so much that his PGTI was quicker than anything on the planet. It was the fact he insisted it was stock standard, but ran 1/4 mile times faster than Astra OPC's and even M3's.

Asking proof for said times was ignored, as were challenges from dolby I believe
