Audi A3 Temperature Issue (Car running cold)

KE? Aint the thermostat located by the radiator as that is where the valve is that is either open or closed depending on the temp to let the coolant flow or stay put?

No, t/stat is generally on the engine block, close to the water pump.

Now you have me wondering if I did the water pump along with the thermostat back then... I know it was pretty pricey.

Oh lordy. I hope it is not a big thing for them to replace, if it is faulty or stuck in the open position. :(

It really shouldn't be. Which land-tata do you have again?

Why are people so worried about car temps. My BMW doesn't even have a temp gauge if it overheats I will get a warning.

I can't see an issue with a car running too cold. Sure, probably not best for the longevity of the engine, but rather too cold than too hot I suppose :p

Hopefully it's not located in a spot where it will take hours of labour to get to it. My old Astra G had the same problem, thermostat was cheap but they have to take off the cam-belt to replace the thermostat as it was close to the water pump. Ended up paying much more for labour than the part.

Or like the Polo which lived in a massive plastic housing, was surprisingly easy to get and replace it, but the part cost R1600

This, quite a few modern cars don't have the temp gauges anymore and even the ones that do aren't always 100% accurate. My Astra F temp gauge would go all the way to 3/4s and there was never an issue with it. I spent tons of money trying to fix a problem that didn't actually exist.

Because I think it affects the running of the engine and its efficiency. Sure, rather a cold engine than a overheating one, which is why the thermos today have been designed to fail only in the open state rather than the closed state. But I would rather have it fixed and have the engine reach its designed operating temp as soon as possible, as it was designed to.

No I agree, it's your prerogative. Just saying it's a bit pedantic in my opinion :p

Pedantic.....or caring for a expensive machine which is still under warranty. I am going to go with the latter.

As you please, your car.

I personally would not let them scratch around in the engine bay unless it's necessary. They might just break something else. But again, that's me .

By replacing a thermostat?

Ag ffs, not getting into an argument with you... Geesus.

It's your farking car, do as you like. I think it's farking retarded to worry about a car running a little cold. That is my opinion I can't be arsed what you do or don't do... fark me!

I gave an opinion, you don't like it, tough...

I am not arguing. I am discussing and asking a question (as I mentioned, I am not a mechanic or all that knowledgable about cars, so I do ask a lot of questions in this section of mybb). In my view replacing a thermostat is a small job. If you are getting agro then leave it. Geesus.

So is replacing a bumper at a panel beater and yet someone has engine issues now because of it. Anyway, do as you please, your car your concern.
