Good Day,

I have been driving the 2012 Kia Koup since 2012. I test drove to Audi 107000KM on the clock and was impressed with the performance and comfort. No rattles, it's fast and sound system is good.

So I was wondering if someone could tell me if what are the cons of considering to buy this car.

I do a lot of traffic from Tshwane to Joburg...

The multitronic gearbox might start giving problems later on ,its quite a bit of money to have it fixed ,if it does fail.

Make sure you have the gearbox checked out beforehand ,if you do decide to purchase it.

Thank you.. I see the Gearbox were R70k to change and Piston Rings are R33k to change back in 2014

I went to Audi and they pulled out this report... Complete Gearvox changed at @85000km, Piston Ring changed @89000KM, Bondet Rubber Mounting @84000km and oil separator changed a@88000KM.. All this were done under maintenance plan at Audi in 2014 Aug...

I had an Audi A4 2006 2.0TFSI Multitronic. Very nice car to drive, but the multitronic transmission system started giving issues after a while. Spend about R50k to overhaul the transmission system, and it still wasn't issue-free after that, so I eventually sold it at a big loss.

The newer multitronic is supposed to be better, but you should still be prepared to spend a lot if anything goes wrong.

Don't buy it ,considering the gearbox failed at 85k .

That is insane. I would stay far away but that's just me. Endless VW/Audi horror stories but yet people still buy them.

Thank you all for your input... So is the S-Tronic or Manual better?... Or Audi is just a no go zone? What is the best alternative then?

Manual is a better cost wise ,as the gearbox will show signs of failing if the clutch is wearing out ,the clutch is much cheaper to replace also than a repair on automatic gearbox . A automatic gearbox can just decide at anytime to fail and then your stuck ,a manual gearbox with a worn out clutch will still be able to drive.

S-tronic is a Dual clutch based gearbox ,it is really awesome to drive one ,will last longer than the multronic gearbox in general ,but also expensive to replace if it does fail.

Audi in general is slightly more expensive to maintain if something goes wrong you really left out of the pocket .

The quality makes up for it ,I had 2013 A3 1.4t s-tronic rental before ,it was a really great car to drive.

Also maybe go look at BMW 320D ,the steptronic gearbox is normally good for around 200k .

When factoring in your fuel costs, be sure to factor in oil costs as well. VAG engines use about as much oil as they do petrol.

I own a 2010 with the Multitronic box and it's given me no hassles whatsoever over the past 2 years. This new box is a huge improvement over the last generation of Multitronic boxes. Having said all that, I'd go with the S-tronic rather simply because it's not a CVT and should last longer.

Edit: My cars mileage is sitting on 120k.

The Piston rings and oil separator were probably done because of high oil consumption at the time, the oil separator was improved probably because they found excess oil being burnt while being re-introduced to the air mixture.

As for the gearbox the push rods that are actuated by the control unit get stuck, for the life of me I don't know why but technical advise replacement but as with Audi, they prefer to fix some things and other things they prefer to replace.
