Audi RS3 vs VW Golf R

So just browsing YouTube & I came across these rather good vid from the guys at Evo.

Now offhand it's a strange comprassion; I mean normally you compare the Golf 7 R with the S3. According to these guys Golf R has the S3 whipped.

So they took the Golf R up against the big daddy RS3 on the track & surprise surprise the Golf R beats the RS3.

They concluded with the R being the cheaper; more playful & better car than the RS3.

I must say impressive stuff VW.

I don't see local pricing of the RS3 just yet.
 
Yes the Golf may be faster but the 5 cylinder in the Audi is just unmatched in terms of sound. Plus you have to tell people you drive a golf even though it over 1/2 million.
 
Is the Golf R 4WD?

Otherwise it's not really a fair comparison to me in the real world where it's not just all about speed.
 
At the end of the day, when all is said and done, it's still a golf.
 
The golf is awesome ... For the money its hard to beat. Drive one and it makes you realise the equivalent German marques are over priced

Yes all R models are AWD. G5 R32; G6 R; G7 R.

Even though it may not seem like we are comparing direct apples with apples they would appeal to the same segment.

Even the oh so lovely Rebecca Jackson prefers the Golf R over the RS3 all things considered.

But yes pros & cons ie. That 5-cylinder motor; badge appeal.

But the Scirocco R is FWD only right?

I was thinking purely along the lines of driving dynamics. I haven't drive the 5-pot sadly.

Recently for a very odd ball pair to compare in an older RS4 vs a new Scirocco R and it would be a really tough choice if I had to buy one or the other.

RS3 vs Golf R seems simple...all about the money.

The reviewer asks what's the difference between the cars, goes on to mention horsepower and nothing else.
First thing I saw was cloth interior on the golf, and really sweet leather seats in the rs3. If you have kids, the first one is a deal-breaker. Nothing like that soury baby milk smell after it's fermented into the cloth.

If you want the fastest car for the least amount of money, get 1400 datsun Bakkie with a stupid big engine. For 99% of us that won't be spending the entire day on the track, there's more to consider than only going fast.
 
Only problem with the Op is the golf R in south Africa is only 206 Kw , for me that would stop me buying that car .
The de-tune just puts me right of that car .
If i owned that car every time i drove that car i would wonder what it would feel like with the extra 20 Kw. . BTW i am in the market for a new car and this car(R) is not on my list simply because of the 20 Kw detune ..
R752 000 for the RS , to me the A45 seems like a better deal at R 682,984 @ 280 Kw.

A friend who works at Audi told me pricing is R710 000 without extras. The total amount of extras adds up to R218 950

Around the track, both AutoExpress and EVO noted issues with understeering, hesitant gearbox, lazier throttle response which makes it hard to use all that power advantage. In terms of everyday, normal roads, the RS3 will smash the 7R.

Current Audi RS3 Sportback, tested at Gerotek
0-100km/h: 4.75 seconds
¼ Mile: 13.17 seconds @ 168.64 km/h
1 km: 24.21 seconds @ 216.54 km/h

That is A45 AMG level
0-100 km/h: 4.99 Seconds
¼ Mile: 13.30 Seconds @ 170.00 km/h
1 Km: 24.30 Seconds @ 215.66 km/h

New RS3 will be faster. I have seen 7R being demolished by A45 AMG. There is a video of that race at Killarney posted on youtube by Cars. The Golf R400 will be the match for A45 AMG and RS3.

7R are blowing turbos, I wouldnt waste time on it.
I would wait for the new turbo models.

huh? No, only when modded.
But that has been sorted now in anycase as the after market maps don't ramp up the boost too aggressively at low rpm.

0-100 in 3.7s seconds in the 7R with software and intake.

So a 5.2s car can do 3.7s with software and intake? Uuummm no.
