I have been with Mac for about six years now, and have never had the need to go in and try to adjust audio settings. However, recently I was using a pair of headphones that was sounding too bassy when listening to music and Skype on my MBP. It sounded way better when using iOS on my iPhone/iPad or iPod touch (iOS has a basic equaliser that can also be adjusted). I tried to find some kind of equaliser for Mac OSX where I could introduce more treble and cut the lows....but my search was in vain.

I then thought that there might be a Mac app for it. I searched the Mac App store but came up with nothing.

Is there an equaliser that I have not stumbled on in OSX ML ?

I don't have anything connected to test this out with but I would imagine between the Audio MIDI in utilities (grouped under other on your mission control) and the Sound option under system preferences there would be something. Otherwise in iTunes if you open it and go to window you can select equalizer and it allows you to adjust.

Ahhhh thanks, I knew there had to be one somewhere. I can kick myself for not finding it. Thanks again

There is an equalizer in iTunes but it works only for iTunes. This has been bugging me for as long as I've had a Mac. I have a pair Logitech 2.1 set, and while the sound quality is OK for the price, it's super bassy. I've got the knob turned all the way down to 1, and it still booms quite badly. I haven't found a system-wide equalizer for the Mac yet either :(

Aah nice, thanks. See, it always helps to google again once in a while - that article is only three months old!
