I bought my 2012 Audi A5 2.0T Quattro about 18 months back with that intention of extending the plan before year end at a cost of R40,000ish for 2 years.

I pop in today and pricing has all gone up - R53k for 2 years (time only) and R57k 2 years/20,000km! For interest, I asked about 2 year/100,000km ... R165k for the extension.

Anyone know roughly what the other brands are? These sound ludicrous to me!

Other cars with full manufacturer maintenance plans will be comparable. BMW's was, as a rule of thumb, R20k+ per year a good few years ago; it's probably in the same ballpark by now. I don't think the value proposition is particularly compelling.

Dafaq? You can buy a polo for that :wtf:

Most brands are the same.

Look at buying some warranty plans instead of maintenance.

That is , sommer JAGS, as they say in Afrikaans. To me, that means one thing only. Audi have no faith in their own products.

I thought moter plans was supposed to be cheaper but this is just a money making scam. Just do one proper service once a year and your good to go.

and mechanical insurance. generally covers engine issues, transmissions and other major moving parts.

Done.

For that price u could buy a spare engine and keep it in your garage so u don't have to worry about the current one braking.

I assume you know what the factory cost of a 2.0T engine is, imported and installed?

It greatly depends on who is doing the installation. Audi themselves? They would probably charge R1m so then the motor plan makes sense.

But if u understand how insurance tipe plans work then this cars do really need to break alot like someone else suggested to validate the cost.

It's done to make you rather just get a new car.. pretty lousy.

Warranties will cover all that for far less. Maintenance plans are money-making scams to sucker people into "free" schit like wipers and light bulbs...

Didn't know that. Do you have some stats?
Well mine popped a piston at 42,000km and another at 48,000km. It still isn't as smooth as it should be - but Audi SA don't care. I went to Durban last week and was worried a 3rd piston would go - but we made it.

Yesterday though, I had to go in again. Seems a solenoid in my gearbox is going awry ... Something they've never seen.

Even Audi themselves say this is a Monday car

Which model?

What happened to the S4??

I thought I could adjust going from an Auto back to a manual ... but I was wrong. I hated the manual in the traffic I drove in and the clutch burnt far too easily. At R30,000 per clutch, I wasn't keen on keeping it ...

I tried trading for S Tronic S4s but there were out my budget. I miss it - but not day to day driving in Witkoppen / William Nicol traffic
