Watching this pseudo outrage from the right wing is amazing. They so quickly lapped up the Fox News talking point. Avoid talk about gun control by labeling Obama a racist. Remarkable. This is a little like watching Animal Planet.

He can hopefully enforce stricter gun laws that will stop felons from being able to purchase guns AND the sale of second hand guns without documentation.

Why do you always jump to that conclusion? I didn't say that guns should be outlawed at all, just stricter control around who can buy guns. Surely it's not that difficult to comprehend?

Its been shown that strict gun control only affects law abiding gun owners, why is it so hard for you and the others to understand this?
You can go into Alex and buy an AK for 500 bucks, you think a criminal wont continue to do that? Laws mean nothing to criminals.

It's not the same thing, firstly you're comparing South Africa to America, secondly the number of shooting sprees and gun violence in America indicates whatever level of control they have at the moment is not working and thirdly, is the old wives tale of being able to go into a township and buy an AK still going? Like do you think you just walk into an informal settlement, find the nearest person you can and ask them for an automatic machine gun?

I am talking about any country that has criminals trying to get guns illegally.
So we have some of the strictest gun control in SA and look at our illegal gun crime, its through the bloody roof. It does not work.
I know for fact about the "buying a gun in township" thing.
Would you like to come with and see?

He has an interesting argument though: Let everyone buy guns freely and then shoot each other dead until all that's left is the victor. Because, clearly, the only way to protect yourselves from other people with guns is by having a gun.

After all, that's exactly as it stands, isn't it? People who want guns badly enough will get them, legally or not.

What good is gun control? It just pisses in the wind, really. I mean, obviously, marine1's argument is that you cannot stop people who want to own guns, owning guns. People like him will get hold of them whether it's legal or not because they feel they need to defend themselves, just like criminals will get hold of them to commit crimes, whether it's legal or not.

Clearly gun control cannot work while people like that exist in society, so give everyone guns, let them all off each other and then when there's no more need for guns we can finally get rid of them.

But that's not how it works, is it? We'll always need them. I mean, if you live in a society that can't give up guns now, when will it be possible?

Because, as you surely know, if people didn't have guns, they'd just kill each other with sticks, stones, knives, bricks and brute force, which you will never see coming and can't protect yourself against.

So, instead of trying to control gun ownership, let's just sell them freely and kill each other and be done with it and hopefully society will be better off in the end.

What complete rubbish. Don't put words in my mouth.
I said criminals will find a way to get guns no matter what. I never said law abiding people like me will buy guns illegally. If the law says no gun then that's the law. It will not however stop criminals getting guns just like in the UK for example
