Now that will bring his "reign" to 15 years! He probably took some notes from some of his African counterparts.

Now I wonder if T-boss is thinking "If he can do it, why can't I?" I think it is pretty good thing our constitution only allows 2 terms. There always has to be a change in leadership styles and attitudes, otherwise things tend to stagnate, with Zim being the worst case scenario. (Not that I'm comparing the two)
 
ahh, heres one to all those who say this kind of thing only happens in Africa

If he gets the votes then obviously the people are happy with him so why not :)

So the Australian PM considers this move, under a different set of constitutional rules- and somehow its a reflection on Mbeki, with the added, inevitable reference to Zimbabwe?

Like the people in SA are happy with the ANC, so if they get the votes then, they must be doing a good job

Well it's a sad reflection on the majority of South Africans if they think Thabo is doing a good job :o

I never said it only happens in Africa, maybe I should have put it as more prevalent in Afica.

But hey if the citizens of the country are happy, they will vote for them. I sometimes wonder though would it be a bad thing if our current President stood for another term? As it seems the people set to replace him don't exactly inspire a lot of confidence in their abilities.

Maybe i should start my own party.
 
Of course it doesn't only happen in Africa... it's happened in Europe, South America and Asia as well, not to mention the middle east. Europe seems to have gotten out of the habit, though. Military coup is still an accepted way to transfer power in South America, so they've still got it worse than us.

No-one said it's an African problem. The fact remains that it's still a problem. This is not how the system of democracy is meant to work.

That statement is not necessarily true. I think if they put a tub of lard on the podium, as long as it was ANC they would still vote for it.:D

He always tries to be very important, maybe he just can't handle not being in power.
