Cull mulled

Sharks attack more often in cloudy weather and police said the day had been overcast.
Map

Western Australia Premier Colin Barnett has said he would consider a shark cull, and his government is looking into the possibility of increasing aerial shark patrols.

But scientists have warned against over-reacting.

Barbara Weuringer, marine zoologist and shark researcher at the University of Western Australia, urged against a shark hunt, saying the only way to know which shark attacked is to kill one and open up its stomach.

"It sounds a little bit like taking revenge," she was quoted by AP as saying. "And we're talking about an endangered species."

Sharks are a common feature of Australian waters but, according to the Australian Shark Attack File, attacks are rare with only 53 fatalities in the last half-century.

WTF is wrong with humans?

We are swimming in their domain and now we want to kill them because they are killing us?

We are a fking sick species.

Agreed. We destroyed most of land animals habitit, why can't we leave the oceans alone?

I agree 100%

Why blame the sharks? That like walking into a game reserve and blaming the wild animals that hurt u

I wish more people would see it like that. It seems they think they own the ocean.

Send Colin Barnett into the sea himself. Let the sharks take HIM out. Moron.

Sent from my GT-I9000

Humans kill more than sharks! Why not cull humans starting with dumbass Colin Barnett.

What makes this worse is that great whites are endangered. How can you even THINK of the possibility of culling an endangered species?

Sounds like Malema's plan is set into motion.

Also mandatory Great White pic

Sharks are being wiped out by over fishing for their fins already, now people want to cull them without any knowledge of their actual population figures.
Stupid is as stupid does.

Hi, Devil's advocate here.

Are you proposing that if someone goes into the sea it's their fault for getting eaten by a shark? So, swim at your own risk, seeing as we don't belong in the sea?

Secondly, if a shark came into "our domain", without being threatening, would we kill it? Most people wouldn't. I know I wouldn't.

(Who the **** decides what area is whose domain anyway? I can swim, why the **** aren't I allowed in the sea?)

Sharks are ****s. They're ugly, they don't have emotions, and they bite people.

Would the world really be a worse place without sharks? Many species go extinct. That's how natural selection works. Why are sharks special?

**** sharks.

So, swim at your own risk, seeing as we don't belong in the sea?

10 out of 10.

Would the world really be a worse place without sharks?

Probably something to do with not having the entire ocean's ecosystem turned on it's head ?

Sharks eat other smaller fish which eat other smaller fish - the one's we eat.

No sharks, no fish to eat.

How does sharks eating smaller fish account to: "without sharks there's no smaller fish?" :wtf:
Sounds like without sharks there'll be MORE fish for us!! yeah i like fisssh! :p

If sharks are wiped out other species will be affected too. We do not know how far-reaching the consequences will be.

Another way to argue it:

We know that sharks are more likely to attack people when its overcast. (based on article)
We know that its a bad idea to swim when the shark warnings are up
We know which areas sharks frequent
We know that we may encounter sharks if shark nets were not deployed

Yet we ignore what we know and still go feed the sharks with our own a$$es.

So.. how is the general lack of human intelligence the sharks fault? We are supposed to be the superior beings after all.

The way I see it - there is really no reason why, with a little effort, we can't swim in the sea without being eaten.

You're welcome to go into the sea. Just remember that venturing into an environment filled with wild animals carries risks. Don't blame the animal when it chows you.

Same thing as when you get out of your car to get a better photo of lions in the Kruger. If one pounces on you and kills you then too bad, you were an idiot. I'm not going to say "OMGZ KILL THE LIONZZ!!!!!!1!@!!!" I'm going to say "what an idiot".

**** sharks.
The key word in Natural Selection is Natural. Mankind wiping them out with explosives or netting is not Natural Selection.

Natural Selection in this case would be to leave technology out of it. Let human beings swim in the water. No nets, no explosives etc. and see who eats who. Natural Selection FTW.

Lol maybe we should go talk to the sharks presidents and work out a deal

Wild animals don't have feelings or thought they work on instinct, the moment we go into the sea we are no longer the top dog.

I have heard some chatter over on shark under water signal 88 radio station that they are considering being less hostile to humans. All we need to do is stop killing all of them and they will consider not killing the 40 humans a year.

We must also stop taking all their food as they get very sore tummies so a crap tasting human is better than nothing.

Because the fish we eat will get eaten by the bigger fish that the sharks feed on.

Seals are a good example.

( ps; I know seals are not fish... )

People can also cull seals...

Btw the sharks in the western cape is doing a ****ty job of keeping seal numbers in check.

The sharks aren't the bad guys here. If someone came into my house, dressed only in a speedo, I'd probably attack him too.
