Aussies considering Great White cull

Imagine if there were no sharks.

As I said people can also cull seals :D
Hell we can even re-introduce the fur trade.(just imagine the amount off jobs/wealth that could be created?
Off course the hippie tree huggers won't be happy.

The sharks aren't the bad guys here. If someone came into my house, dressed only in a speedo, I'd probably attack him too.

There are at time up to 75,000 seals on Seal Island.

1000 seals can consume over 15000 Kg fish every day.

We need more sharks.

For once we are a minority. Sharks control 75% of the planet, time to take some of it back!

jk.

In general it isnt really a good thing to mess with nature ... lol

But what's the point in culling in Australia? ... just so that there can be a few more people in the sea during summer time when the tourists come around? .... then what about winter? .... seems more about money making now when I think about it that way

If they do decide to cull for whatever reason ... they better end up having an extremely good idea with all the shark meat ... i suppose that would also be sold in the end ...

Seriously though, I like sharks, but meh, the amount of shark attacks we have in our town is crazy. Every year a couple of people die on our beaches. And people saying that the victims deserved it because they were swimming, is like saying a woman deserves to be raped because of the way they dress. No one deserves it, and normally the guys that get munched are the biggest supporters of shark rights.

I wanna know why people overreact to shark culling, when we cull elephant, lions and thousands of other species already. Why just the sharks? Dont the land animals deserve some anti-cull love as well?

Why not just cull humans, then there'll be enough fish for the rest of us.

Funny you should say that.
In another thread I said that earth was not meant to have more than 5 billion people.
So yes there should be fewer people, now if governments just want to introduce measures to limit human population growth.

I wanna know why people overreact to shark culling, when we cull elephant, lions and thousands of other species already.

Because they are not on the endangered-species list.

Some perspective - there are less than 100 shark-related human deaths per year.

That's less than 10 per month globally !

Snake bites account for 50,000 deaths, elephants around 500.

On the other hand around 6000 people are killed every year by falling off ladders.

Because they are not on the endangered-species list.

Both Lions and African Elephants are considered vulnerable species. Which means that the balance can tip against their favour very quickly. I don't think we should so easily decide which species should be protected and which shouldn't.

Because the fish we eat will get eaten by the bigger fish that the sharks feed on.

Seals are a good example.

( ps; I know seals are not fish... )
pffft then we'll just eat bigger fish and seals. We're humans we get to eat whatever we want.
