Since yesyerday I have not been able to log onto the VM data network. The modem gets as far as authentication and then seems to stop responding and eventually times out. Any one else ??

Yea, see my previous thread about the PPP link error that I still have with CellC.
I am giving them a few days to sort this crap out - I believe it all has to do with piggy backing VM on the CC network. This should all have been sorted out before they aired ads with Lenny Henry and slapped a bunch of Kiosks into every Musica store. The whole fiasco smacks of a sloppy project with more capital than capability. However, being in tech myself I am trying to have a little understanding and hope that by next week it will all be sorted out and that CellC users neednt suffer for the sake of 50c/meg VM hype.

Do you get any signal at all?

My i-Mate Jasjar is working fine with VM data but I don't get any signal with my sim in my Data Card.

I get lots of signal in the datacard using the 128 K sim. card software says all is OK. Just the authentication times out. tries this on diffferent towers as well, same result.

Hi there guys, i got pissed off with this PPP crap, i couldn't connect using my pc, but i got all the stuff on my phone working, but i mean whats the use of 50c/MB if u cnt use ur PC :D :D so I started messing with Initilization Scripts, and i eventually came up with this:

at+cgdcont=1,"IP","vdata"

Just pop that in the "Extra Initialization Commands" text box under ur Modem properties, Advanced tab.

As "C for yourself" sed, theres a problem on the Cell-C database, i guess this jsut forces a connection! enjoy!!!

I have already tries the At string. it makes no difference for me. I still get timed out on authentication and then told that the connection failed. Somebody please help!!

I have exactly the same problem as you. Phone works perfectly with VM sim but I can't connect to the net with my Data Card.

It shows Authentication then after a while it just says connection failed.

Wonder what the problem could be:confused:

Looks like we might be back to square one. The issue is with VC network afer CC because CC works just fine.

Remember Cell-C was working on their towers during the past week. They must've changed some setting or something that's why the Virgin Mobile sims doesn't want to work now. That's all I can think. There can't be something wrong with the "vdata" APN because my other Virgin Mobile sim card works perfectly in my Jasjar for internet use.

Maybe after tonight it will be fine. Cell-C will be working on their GPRS/EDGE from 24:00 until about 04:00. Maybe that will sort the problem.;)

lets hope so. I travel to JHB tomorrow and will need it. i dont feel like paying R 2 per mb

e-mail received this morning from Virgin Mobile.

Hi

I am working on something as we speak, I have gathered that most of the guys that I did send the new sims are having problems as from yesterday too. Had a chat with Techie guys from the network and assured me an answer by this afternoon. I will let you know soonest. The other customers with old sims can still connect so I think it’s got more to do with the sims and the 3G profile on it.

Thanks for your support and patience.

I don't think so. The reason I say so is because it did work from the first time I inserted it in my Data Card. Was able to log on and browse the internet.

With the old (64k) sim it wasn't possible at all. So I think it's a network problem.

Still cannot login , anyone else with the same problem , this is getting annoying now .

Do you have a VM contract? We can't demand compensation from Virgin because we are not loosing anything. The service and support, well, definately not SH*t as you describe it.

I am not going to complain on Hellopeter because there is no problem with the service and support. These guys are doing their best to get us up and running. You did receive your FREE 128k sim with airtime loaded on it. That is something I feel they didn't have to do.

Like I said, I will keep you guys posted regarding this issue. And I'm doing this not because I have to but because I want to. I don't work for Virgin Mobile.

I'm doing them and you guys a favor.;)

On behalf of all the other guys/gals thanks ,off course we are loosing , its like giving a cellphone free without a battery that cannot be bought anywhere ,the fact that we cannot use thier data services for our bussiness is a loss , the issue is that we cannot use the VM sim with our data cards , yes , they gave us free cards , but we cannot use them , does not make sense to me .What we need is an official response regarding this problem , which has not excatly been forthcomming

You are aware of the fact that the new cards did work? I received my 128k sim last week Friday. Since the first time I inserted it in my Data Card it worked perfectly. That was untill 2 days ago that it just stopped working. So there must be some kind of problem on the network. That's all I can think.

Please be patient. I'll try to get some more info and an "Official Response".

While I am in the same boat, I do not feel that VM owes anybody an apology in this regard. It was never promised by VM that their sim cards would work in a 3g data card from another Network. They tried to fix that for those of us that do want to use them in 3g datacards but unfortuantely as of now there is a problem. So, its BAD LUCK - they did try.
If you want to use their sims and get 50c/meg, go out and buy their GPRS/EDGE data card and if it does not work then, by all means complain on HelloPeter.
Virgin do not have 3g at the moment so they have no obligation to provide you with a sim that works in a 3g card.

my 2c :)
