Auto connection sharing

Hi Guys

Just want to check some logic here. I want to share my DSL connection wirelessly without have to keep a machine running, and also with the setup able to recover from power failures without intervention.
Obviously I need to use a router solution.

Soo, am I right in thinking I need to buy a wireless router + an ethernet ADSL modem?
I plug the ethernet modem into the WAN port of the router and Bob's your Nazi bordering country neighbour right?

The Billion Bipac 7100G is also worth taking a look at. ADSL router, wireless AP (g-range), with 4-port eth. switch. Nice features.

Ok, I have another question for the hardware freaks around here...

Can I plug a USB wireless adapter directly into an ADSL modem router. In other words do u get ADSL modem routers with USB ports that can support an ad hoc Wifi connection...or do the USB WiFi adapters only work if hooked up with PC software....

Don't think so. I may be wrong, but I don't think you can mix up ad-hoc and infrastructure WIfi networks to that extent.. and especially their hardware.

What is it you intend to do exactly?

GU7, basic plan is as follows:

Create Wifi network using USB wifi adapters and chinese cookware (ala www.usbwifi.orcon.net.nz) with a friend who lives about 500-750m down the hill from me.
The thing with this approach is that one uses a long run of USB cabling - which is lossless and cheap/easy to do. The problem is that in order to share an ADSL connection over this scenario, one needs to have the DSL host machine running 24/7 to keep the USB wifi connection. I'm hoping there's a way to plug the usb Wifi direct into the ADSL router and thus have a hardware solution running that can negate the need for the 24/7 host machine...
