I have the option of getting a Kia Rio 1.4 Tec in an auto version. However I'm worried that the 4-speed auto gearbox doesn't cut it and that fuel consumption will be super high. I've driven it and it felt ok though, but I don't have much to compare it to. Should I go for it or rather stick with a manual?

I am so over stick vehicles. Auto all the way :)

a 1.4 auto ...unless you cant drive manual there has to be something wrong with you

if its a merc or bmw its a different story but a 1.4 with a auto box is just sad

Never took notice of the 1.4. My bad.
Mine is an Audi A6. Been driving auto for 10 years now. Feels so awkward when I drive a stick.

What type of driving will you be doing? Auto boxes have seen major improvement from the past, so they are smoother and change much better. Auto rocks in traffic, so if that is what you will be doing, its a good idea.

yeah on the A6 its a different story lol

cannot see myself driving a huge car in manual

its meant to be relaxing lol

In city traffic - auto rulez.

lazy drivers lol

Auto, auto, auto.

Except if it's a sport car and paddles aren't an auto option.

Always manual. Automatics are horrible in comparison. Drove one for years and was very glad to switch back.

3 of my 4 cars are manual and one auto of course. Would choose the auto as a daily commute anyday

The new DSG boxes from VW are brilliant

those are completely different cases lol

we talking about a 1.4 here with no dsg option lol im sure its a normal auto box and its a 4 speed lol so no steering peddles

if i had to choose on a dsg box or something i would take that dsg anyday cause its fun

What car? One auto? IMHO you owe it to yourself to try a new auto. 4-speed auto's I would agree are dated and not the greatest pleasure to drive. Modern auto's with 5-speed boxes or more are fantastic.

My mothers 1.4 auto (VW) is heavier on fuel than the manual one, and slow to change gears (compared to when i would and want it to change gears). Its OK on the open road though.
