I'm looking at getting an automatic espresso machine (bean-to-cup) for my dad for his wedding. My brother and I are pitching in together with one or two other people and have a R12k budget.

Any suggestions?

And any places in Pretoria where I can have and go a look? I've checked out a number of machines online but would prefer to go to the shop myself and see the machine in actions.

I'm looking specifically for a shop with Jura's or Sprada machines. I know Dion Wired carries the DeLonghi's.

I saw the DeLonghi machines at Dion Wired (much cheaper than Jura), but the felt a bit cheap. We settled for a Nespresso machine for the office, and the coffee drinkers love it. Worth considering at least.

Why not look at the Nespresso machines?.. they're cheaper than R12k, but can make a bloody good cup of coffee

I've sampled many a cup of coffee from various brands of these machines, but the Jura's always come out on top - they make a damn fine cup of coffee.

I have an ECM Giotto myself, and I struggle to match the perfect taste a Jura can produce.

Saeco is also pretty good, and they have a wide range of units ...

Average cost is R60 for 10 cups: not exactly cheap.

in brooklyn square there's this coffee shop selling beans and machines. it is on the ground floor. algoa bay or something? there's also a special kind of rude girl that works there. i think it is her dad's store. they sell jura machines. bottom of the range i think was about R7k.

PS Do not buy a breville via @home. ever. stick to a jura or saeco if you can.

I was at the store today - the owner is pretty nice and friendly. He also demo'd a Severin S2 - apparently a German brand. The machine is R8k, really small but sturdy (weights 9 kg), extremely simple to use and made one of the best cups of espresso which I've ever tasted. I've been told the milk froth is also decent though the bubbles are a bit bigger than the Jura (didn't ask to see it - unfortunately) and it is simple to clean. The grinder is ceramic and apparently the boiler is also quite good (he mentioned some feature but didn't quite get it). The brewing unit is easy to remove and clean, as is the water from the spill-tray and the ground/spent coffee. He calibrates the machine for you in terms of water hardness (at least, if you live in an area he's familiar with, which my dad fortunately does).

I'm just not sure how great the after sales support is - or the reliability of the machines?

Any one know the brand?

Saeco agents in Fairie Glen, in atterbury. Good stuff there
