Automatic trans: correct usage at drive-through?

I stand on the breaks when I'm waiting in the drive through.

As do many people, but don't worry, the chances of ending up in a Pizza queue in front of the only person actually complaining about his delicate eyes is probably 1 in many million.

Haha if I see a self-righteous BMW driver whining in drive throughs, I'll make sure to give them a ultra wide berth (and take out my brake light bulbs)

You need to pull to one side, turn ALL your lights off and bow as you usher the BMW past so he can get served first :p

Can we get some more derails up in this thread

I have never been "blinded" by another cars brake lights at night at a drive through, one can look around mos duh, compared to driving behind a car with rear fogs on where you must look ahead at it.
must say I agree with this.

hell I drive a manual car and I still keep my foot on the brake even while car in neutral... while it idles.

never been blinded by rear lights. front lights yes when idiots drive with brights or fog lights on.

Slide into neutral and use the hand brake, which doesn’t engage the brake lights.

I don’t understand why this is even a question?

If there a serious incline you can even put it in park.

But the behaviour is hardly an automatic vs manual one. Many people do the same using a manual.

I’ll use the brake myself whether manual or automatic all depending on how long I’m waiting.

I kind of understand what the OP means as my eyes are very light sensitive. Especially cars with LED rear lights, those are quite bad. But I tend to focus on something else when the light blind me.

With the Passat I don't need to keep foot on the brakes as once I stop the auto hold keeps the car on place until I touch the accelerator, with the up I just keep my foot on the brakes.
