Sorry to hear that QDot...
Lower salary may be a risk to them on basis of the modem they bundle with it - they obviously dont want to jepordise losing the modem cost.
The unbundled options require u to buy the modem, which reduces Sentech's risk - thus they will obviously be much more leniant about offering unbundled contracts since there isnt a modem at stake...

I could be wrong as this was not official,
but last I heard, someoe actually talked and found out what it was,
on 128k I think you need a gross of 11k or something.

Not sure though

I've heard from a Sentech support guy that it was 8000 but who knows. I am totally committed to paying the R650 anyways so whats the big deal. Its only a small 650 a month and its not going to rise like a cellphone can/would. At the worst its R650 a month. I can afford it easily.

what are they trying to say? Sentech is only available to the upper class of society? In the age of affirmative action/employment equity/ favouring previously disadvantaged groups etc whatever happened to giving opportunities to people who will work hard to pay for themselves.

The unbundled option is stupid anyway. It costs more and they expect everyone (I bet even the 11k earners wont have it) to have 4000 lying around. Its only R100 less a month. Really, Come on. Like the will approve you if you can pay 550 but not 650. So they are saying you must earn another say, 5000 to pay the extra 100?

I want to rather take the R3500 and use it as payments of R650. That way they will always have 5 months in the bag. So if I earn nothing/0/zip for 5 months then they are paid up. They cant seem to understand this thinking though.

Its simple.. I wont miss a payment because I will then not have my 24/7 internet access. Its that easy. I also intend sharing the costs with my flatmates but of course it will look fishy if I put our total incomes and supply 3 separate payslips for 3 people.

I also get the feeling if they see Credit Card they skip the credit checks and approve you straight away.

Anyone reading this manage to get passed the declined problem ie. paying a bit extra upfront so that they "trust" you more? I have heard of this happening but from my experiences I doubt whether its true or not.

The reason they're more sticky about the bundled option is that until the 24 months are over they own the modem. Would you just hand over something worth R4000 to someone you don't know? In Sentech's case they are leasing modems in the 1000's and therefore do not have the time to study each person in depth to determine if they'll pay or not, they need a general baseline. Aiming for the "upper bracket" to begin with results in fewer bad debts. Also getting the modem back from an individual that stops paying causes unnecessary headaches and legal costs. If you purchase the modem to begin with they do not have this headache and even if you stop paying the unbundled contract it is no real skin off their back.
