Average Speed Trapping

I hope they implement this system on all the freeways that form part of the Guateng Freeway Improvement Project.
They have the gantries and the cameras for billing non tagged vehicles so I don't see why they can't implement it.
It would calm the traffic down a lot and stop all the idiots who think weaving through rush hour traffic at 140-150km/h is cool.

Once they've done that they must start enforcing minimum speed limits and fine all the people doing less than 80km/h in the middle lane.
Some of us actually need to get places you inconsiderate idiots - drive the damn speed limit or get off the road.

I would prefer this method of speed monitoring, often you speed up to overtake and then the set up a trap just there.... or worse still at the bottom of a hill.

This way as long as you travel the speed limit most of the way it wont be a problem.

Agreed. +1

I stand to be corrected but I was under the impression that these cameras would catch you on average speed as discussed, and also trap you like a normal camera. So it's really a lose lose, unless I heard wrong.

In JHB just drive without number plates because the Metro pigs are lazy :D

Same for Cape Town.
Many of the Traffic, Metro & SAPS cars also drive without number plates.

The camera traps are simply cash cows and if a driver with no plates goes through one at three times the speed limit the Traffic guys don't care.
